Cumplí mi sueño | My dream came true [ESP/ENG]

in Catarsis2 years ago

¡Hey!

Today I come to tell you a little about how my college life began (the best time of my life). How it was my first epiphany and how I did not rest until I achieved my goal.
It all started when I was 14 years old and I traveled for the first time to Merida (one of the most incredible states in Venezuela). On this occasion I was going as a tourist accompanied by my father and his girlfriend at the time.
Since I was very young I have had quite an adventurous soul so as soon as I stepped on the Andean lands of my country my eyes began to shine.
It is something that simply cannot be described with words, my heart was beating very fast when I saw so many beautiful landscapes, majestic mountains, shining lagoons, magical forests. I felt like I was in a fairy tale.
During our stay I think we only went down to the city one day, because we had stayed at a remote inn in some wasteland.
Among our itinerary, of course, was a visit to Merida's main market. There you could find typical food, handicrafts, textiles, a little bit of everything.

And I remember very well when I came across a little shop that caught my attention. There were many notebooks, of all sizes, there were mugs, blouses, bags. But they were not just anything. They had incredible and very original designs, I had never seen anything like it. I was fascinated. I remember asking out loud "what is this?" and the guy in charge of the store told me "these are all products created by graphic designers graduated from ULA". I have always been an amateur artist and could not believe that someone was able to make a living from their art and the amazing things they could create, I had no idea that such a career existed, until that moment, so I turned around and impulsively said to my father "Dad I want to study graphic design at ULA".
My dad and the store manager laughed at my reaction and none of the three of us imagined that four years later I would be moving to Merida to fulfill my dream of that day.
ULA is a prestigious university in my country and I would later realize why. It was not so easy to get in there, much less for me, who was a very carefree person in my studies.

Me sentía desilusionada.

In 2016 I asked my dad to please take me to take the entrance exam that this university offered every year. I remember that night my legs were shaking because I did not know what answer I was going to receive. It was about moving far away, to the other side of the country, alone, with an economic situation that was beginning to crumble. But, to my surprise, my dad agreed and we started planning everything.
I began to study like never before in my life and on my own, since it was something I longed for more than anything else.
And when the day came, my dad and I got in the car and traveled I think for more than 15 hours on the road, without stopping, taking short breaks to stretch our legs or eat something.
The exam was at the faculty of arts, where I would have to study if I passed. I was nervous as never before, I felt pressured and tired because I had a week without sleeping well, I think if I slept three hours, it was a lot.
There were 50 questions and 10 pages and I think I answered 47.
Then I had to wait a month to receive the results. I went back to sleep and did my normal life.
Finally the results were published and my worst nightmare came true, I was not selected, by 4 places difference. I remember crying like a little girl. All my effort had been for nothing. I felt disappointed. It felt like a duel.
But even though I was a bit broken my hopes didn't end there, I made up my mind to come back the following year and my dad continued to support me.

This time it was different because I came of age and enrolled in a preparatory course for the entrance exam. So I went to Merida a couple of months before the test to prepare myself much better.
The test would be given at the Faculty of Science and this time I felt more confident, I had rested very well and I didn't feel a bit nervous, just anxious in a good way.
Life had prepared a happy ending for me this time. I was among the first 10 admitted and nothing had ever felt so good.
While I was in the course I made a great friend and with him I was able to start exploring the most beautiful places in Merida, although nothing compares to what would come next.
Moving to Merida marked a before and after in my life. For me it was a very profound revelation. It's like when you finally feel like you fit in a place, when you find yourself, when you feel at home, with the right people.

And that was all for my story time today, I could be here talking for hours, but it would be too much. For me it has been like an outlet, a melancholic moment. I want this beautiful experience to encourage you to never give up your dreams and above all to believe in yourselves.

P.S. The photos are very old so they are not of the best quality.

¡Hasta la próxima! See you soon.
