Today my eyes are filled with tears. Not out of pain but out of rage and impotence I have seen my people running after a truck.

It is not the first time this has happened and I am sure it will not be the last, but this time it affected me a little more, my people are running for hunger.

They run looking among the rubble for that
that will give them sustenance.

I have seen my people running after a truck even at the risk of losing their lives, some took advantage of the traffic queue to get on and dig. Others grabbed what little they could hold in their hands as the truck slowly moved along.

Among the few that remained on board, they quickly loaded and placed the little aluminum that was left in sacks. They do this in the hope of being able to trade it or sell it and be able to buy even a packet of flour to put food on their table.

At home, their children, wives and mothers wait for them with the little or much they can find, after maneuvering. As the truck slowly moved forward, some took the opportunity to get off and others simply continued on the road, getting into the truck and digging.

Digging in what was left, inside the little, inside the debris, garbage for some, hope for others, but tank for others the garbage, waste for others. Many ran with sacks in their hands, many ran with pieces, some simply with what they could fit inside their shirts, others with empty hands.

So the truck rolled for miles and they swam in need, one of the smallest climbed out and climbed into the cab and I saw him, as little by little clinging to what little he could hold on to, he surprised the driver and talked to him to stop and leave them where he could, no matter if they had to walk back, but they were safe with what they had.

That's the way it goes in my town, behind a junk truck, behind a gas truck, behind a gas truck. Also clashing with another reality, while some are on the shore of the beach enjoying, perhaps squandering. Others are on the shore waiting for who passes by.

My people run behind a truck, full of hope and winning many battles. Today my tears are like clear water, cleaning the panorama.

Sort:
