It's difficult to find out if (and when) there is a contest or not. I was waiting to receive a call and it never came, but I find them again.
Here's what's new in my garden. I am planting various types of plants. Some I never planted and I'm "rehearsing". But after a few weeks they are growing healthy.
These seeds are a gift from a friend. They are called the seeds of the "Toddy" plant. I first put them in water for 24 hours. I thought they were very difficult to germinate, due to their large size. That was a mistake! They are three times the size of a black bean.
Es difícil enterarse cuando hay o no concurso. Estuve esperando recibir llamado y nunca llegó, pero ya los encuentro de nuevo.
Aquí está lo nuevo en mi jardín. Estoy sembrando varios tipos de plantas. Algunas nunca los planté y estoy ensayando. Pero después de algunas semanas están creciendo en forma saludable.
Estas semillas son un obsequio. Reciben el nombre de semillas de planta de toddy. Primero las coloqué en agua por 24 horas. Pensé que eran muy difíciles de germinar, por su gran tamaño. Que error! Son el triple de tamaño de una caraota de las negras.
On the third day of being sown all or the vast majority are already germinating. I put them in some black bags. Two seeds in each bag, see how they germinate.
Al tercer día de estar sembradas, todas o la gran mayoría ya están germinando. Las coloqué en unas bolsas negras. Dos semillas en cada bolsa. Vean como germinan.
They already have 8 days of sprouting. Ready to be sown in their final place. I'm going to plant two directly in the ground and two in pots. I'll see their progress. They are plants that can get tangled, so I'm going to put them in places where they can do so.
Ya tienen 8 días de germinadas. Listas para ser sembradas en el lugar definitivo. Voy a sembrar dos en el suelo directamente y dos en macetas. Veré su progreso. Son plantas que se enredan, así que voy a colocarlas en lugares donde puedan hacerlo.
These are spinach seedlings. It's my first sowing. They are plants that can get tangled too, I'll look for their final place, on the floor and in a pot. They are not yet highly developed. It takes longer than other plants that I planted first.
Estas son plantines de espinacas. Es mi primera siembra. Son plantas que se enredan, buscaré su lugar definitivo, en el piso y en maceta. Aun no están muy desarrolladas. Se tardan más que otras plantas que sembré primero que ellas.
These are eggplant seedlings. I mistakenly placed too many seeds in the germinator. I thought most of them were damaged and my surprise was too much when more than 100 seedlings germinated.
Estas son plantínes de berenjenas. Por error coloqué demasiadas semillas en el germinador. Pensé que la mayoría estaban dañadas y mi sorpresa fue demasiada cuando germinan más de 100 plántulas.
Here I planted several seedlings of eggplant, spinach and chili peppers. I prepared the ground with the compost of my plants and added some organic fertilizer. I put these pieces of mesh on top to keep cats from wanting to bury their waste here. It worked, they skip over my mesh.
Aquí sembré varias plántulas de berenjena, espinaca y ajíes. Preparé el terreno con el compost de mis plantas y le agregué abono orgánico. Encima coloco estos pedazos de malla para evitar que los gatos quieran enterrar sus productos de desecho aquí. Dio resultado, pasan saltando por encima de mi malla.
I planted some coriander seeds and they are coming. It is the first time on other occasions I planted them and they weren't born.
Sembré algunas semillas de cilantro y se están dando. Es primera vez, en otras oportunidades las sembré y no nacen.
Cut the top edge of a carrot, about 5 cm thick. I left it in the fridge for the little eyes of the plant to grow. And the seed later, in my pot. This is its current development. It's approximately two months old.
A una zanahoria le corte el borde superior, con aproximadamente 5 cm de grosor. La dejé en la nevera a que crecieran los ojitos de la planta. Y la sembre posteriormente, en mi maceta. Este es su desarrollo actual. Tiene aproximadamente dos meses.
My cacti are not far behind. It's time to do transplants. There are many succulents and cacti growing. I separate them and see that they adapt quickly to their new pot.
Mis cactus no se quedan atrás. Es hora de realizar trasplantes. Hay muchas suculentas y cactus creciendo. Las separo y veo que se adaptan rápido a su nueva maceta.
Bean plant that already has its fruits. Ants also seem to like beans. They invade the flowers of my plant and take their flowers.
Planta de frijol que ya tiene sus frutos. A las hormigas también parece que le agradan los frijoles. Invaden las flores de mi planta y se llevan sus flores.
There are not many flowers even in my garden. There is no rain, there is not enough water in the pipes. I must choose between flowers and fruits. My fruit, vegetables and vegetable plants win. The flower girls are suffering a little. But the water from the rains is near, so many expect it. The mountains and fields are without water, waiting for the rains as well.
No hay muchas flores aun en mi jardín. No hay lluvias, no hay agua suficiente en las tuberías de casa. Debo escoger entre flores y frutos. Ganan mis plantas frutales, de legumbres y vegetales. Las de flores están sufriendo un poco. Pero el agua del cielo está cerca, así lo esperan muchos. Las montañas y los campos están sin agua, esperando las lluvias.

That image that I showed you is just a germinator. I have two germinators full of those seedlings. I gave away a lot, to my friends. But I still have so many left and I don't know where to plant them. I'll find a place.
