One of the pros of travelling abroad is the opportunity to watch movies during your flight. The flight is long, and I don't fit well in the seats,s so for sure I have at least 3 good reviews to do in the short term. The first review that I bring is "Nuremberg". A movie that I wanted to watch in the movies, but I couldn't. The movie brings the real history of the Nuremberg trials that happened after the Nazi losing the World War II. So it is a history that we learn a bit about in the past, but the movie brought more details and interesting perspectives.
It is surprising that this movie didn't get any nominations for the Golden Globe or Academy Awards this past year. I was surprised by the acting of Russel Crowe as the fat, narcissistic Minister of Economy fromthe Hitler government, Hermann Göring. Also, the acting of Rami Malek as the American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, who played an important role in evaluating the Nazis who were arrested and going to be put on trial.
The movie brought the drama of bringing together personalities that were totally linked to an extremist point of view that would sacrifice people in order to guarantee the order of their country. It is interesting the message that the psychiatrist Douglas Kelley bring after the trials are done on an American radio, saying that what happened can happen in any other country, including in the US. Usually people link the Nazism event as an evil ideology that is difficult to appear again, but Douglas in the radio show mentions that every time there will be humans trying to tag other people as enemies, bringing blind hate to get more power.
There was another moment in the movie that had a different effect on me; tears came from my eyes when Sergeant Howie Triest brought his history to the psychiatrist. The sergeant played an important role in the trial because he knew German and was a translator, but his real story was only revealed to the psychiatrist. Initially, he says that he knew German because one of his parents used to talk with him in German. But in reality,y he is from a Jewish family in Germany, and he was the only one who could escape from the war to the US. His parents were killed by the Nazis. So went to the USA young and could join the military when he grew older. He was looking for revenge in those trials and saw the psychiatrist as a hope to find a way to condemn the important Nazi figures.
The movie brings great acting, and it is a fluent movie since the 2h28m goes fast with the connecting events. You stay attached to the movie for the whole length. Usually, Holocaust movies bring more the fight part of liberation or the suffering part. This moment of the Nuremberg trials doesn't come up often and it is a great movie to learn more about how in humans are capable not only of good things.

Um filme que eu queria assistir no cinema, mas não consegui. O filme traz a história real dos julgamentos de Nuremberg que aconteceram depois que os nazistas perderam a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Então é uma história sobre a qual aprendemos um pouco no passado, mas o filme trouxe mais detalhes e perspectivas interessantes.
É surpreendente que este filme não tenha recebido nenhuma indicação ao Globo de Ouro ou ao Oscar no ano passado. É interessante a mensagem que o psiquiatra Douglas Kelley traz depois que os julgamentos terminam em uma rádio americana, dizendo que o que aconteceu pode acontecer em qualquer outro país, inclusive nos EUA. Normalmente, as pessoas associam o evento do nazismo a uma ideologia maligna que é difícil de aparecer novamente, mas Douglas no programa de rádio menciona que sempre haverá seres humanos tentando rotular outras pessoas como inimigos, trazendo ódio cego para obter mais poder.
Houve outro momento no filme que teve um efeito diferente em mim; lágrimas vieram aos meus olhos quando o sargento Howie Triest contou sua história ao psiquiatra. O sargento desempenhou um papel importante no julgamento porque sabia alemão e era um tradutor, mas sua verdadeira história só foi revelada ao psiquiatra. Inicialmente, ele diz que sabia alemão porque um de seus pais costumava falar com ele em alemão. Mas, na realidade, ele é de uma família judia na Alemanha, e foi o único que conseguiu escapar da guerra para os EUA. Seus pais foram mortos pelos nazistas. Então foi para os EUA ainda jovem e pôde entrar para o exército quando ficou mais velho. Ele buscava vingança nesses julgamentos e via o psiquiatra como uma esperança para encontrar uma maneira de condenar as importantes figuras nazistas.
O filme traz ótimas atuações, e é um filme fluido, já que as 2h28m passam rápido com os eventos conectados. Você fica preso ao filme durante toda a sua duração. Normalmente, filmes sobre o Holocausto trazem mais a parte da luta pela libertação ou a parte do sofrimento. Este momento dos julgamentos de Nuremberg não aparece com frequência e é um ótimo filme para aprender mais sobre como nós, seres humanos, somos capazes não apenas de fazer coisas boas.

That is a part of the history that shouldn't be repeated again. Many lives were Lost at the war. The world in peace is it what it should be tought to children so the history won't be repeated again..
Maybe the exact version is difficult to repeat, but there are different versions of the same strategy of manipulation to get power as the end goal.

Russell Crowe is an actor I love to watch regardless of the type of movie. You know we don't get movies like this anymore. I enjoyed this movie alot because of the different perspective that was explored. Like you, I was emotional in some parts of the movie. The acting was spectacular, the performance of each character was fantastic for me and at the end of the movie it made me understand the history of those times more.

I agree, I still haven't watched the new version of Gladiator because the original with him was immortalized! It is unfair; at least he should have been nominated to an important award for this movie!
I saw this movie and it's great. The general not only deceives the psychiatrist, but he deceived me too; I even felt compassion for him. This movie is well done; I thought it was fantastic.
Maybe I didn't feel that much since I knew the story behind them hehehe , maybe I saw some traces of goodness on him in some moments, but it is difficult for me.
No estoy segura si es la misma película que ví sobre los juicios de Nuremberg, pero siempre es bueno ver otras versiones, con otras perspectivas. La que recuerdo estaba enfocada en la parte legal de la defensa, y como nadie quería defender a los nazis, pero alguien tenía que hacerlo.

Esta explora un poco más la psicología humana y cómo todos tenemos el potencial de ir siempre por el mismo camino, siguiendo la idea de que es más fácil tener un enemigo al que culpar de todos los problemas de un país o comunidad. No se trata de "mal puro" y "bien puro". Hermann Göring es un narcisista como muchas otras personas en nuestra sociedad; vio en el nazismo una forma de sentirse en el poder y ver al país grande de nuevo, sin importar lo que haya que hacer. La película va en una dirección similar a la de "La ola", ¿la has visto? Hay dos versiones, una de los 80, una estadounidense, y otra de los 2000, una alemana.
Interesante, tendré que buscarla. Seguro es muy interesante si existió la evaluación real. Esa parte es cierta en la historia?
Hay una teoría sobre la responsabilidad delegada, o recuerdo el nombre, pero en síntesis, las personas se sienten menos responsables de hacer cosas malas si reciben órdenes, transfiriendo la culpa y responsabilidad. Es increíble como la mente trata de crear un mecanismo para desactivar por decirlo de alguna forma un sistema de creencias morales usando la excusa de "Yo hice lo que me ordenaron".
Sería bueno ver las dod versiones de La Ola, debe ser una historia magnífica para tener tantas versiones.
