One of the things that people who commit war crimes fail to understand is that the world has come to the stage where they are so many ways in which war crimes can be investigated and gathered by the International Criminal Court investigative officers, doctors, lawyers, and many other related professionals. Day by day, it’s becoming interesting how more evidence of war crimes committed by the Russian forces in Ukraine on the killing of innocent civilians including children, property destruction belonging mostly to the civilians and now genocide has also been added as the Russian atrocities in Ukraine.

The Hill reported that a well-notable Ukrainian top prosecutor has publicly declared that Ukraine has gathered 34,000 war crime evidence committed by Russia since its invasion on 24 February 2022 till day. He also pointed out the level at which the Russian war crime evidence has grown and it has come to a stage where it will be regarded as genocide against humanity and Ukraine as a country.

When a war crime is beginning to gain weight as genocide, the International Criminal Court will not hesitate to bring the offenders to face the panel because genocide is regarded among the crimes against humanity that the ICC condemns. This means in the case of Ukraine that Russia has killed thousands of civilians including children deliberately as more evidence against the killing has reached 34,000 which includes the missile strike by the Russian forces that targeted railway stations in both central and western Ukraine, 450 graves discovered in the city of Izyum and many more are among the evidence.

Newspress reported that Volodymyr Zelensky the Ukraine president has already lamented that Russia has committed genocide against Ukraine following the violence and images that surfaced in the Northwest of Kyiv a city of Bucha and at such, Russia should be regarded as a terrorist state and be brought to the ICC to face panel. Following the Newspress report, the chief Ukrainian prosecutor has admitted that its country and the rest of the world are aware of who has been committing all the war crimes in Ukraine. The Ukraine prosecutor further pointed out that they understand that it will be difficult to bring a sitting leader to face the panel but they are aware that very soon Russia president Vladimir Putin will be brought to face ICC.

One of the things that we must understand is that nobody is above the law especially when it has to do with committing a war crime whether it takes years to be investigated, the offender must be brought to face judgment because most sitting leaders use their leadership power to commit war crimes thinking that they will not face judgment. In the present world, today that is not the case here. With the help of 34,000 war crime evidence documented so far against Russia, they may be facing ICC.
