This is something I have kind of stopped paying as much attention to: the COVID news. Specifically, the lockdown in Shanghai. Thanks to Styxhexenhammer666 for brining it to my attention again (link below).
So yes, it is draconian. Yes, Styx (Tarl Warwick) is right on the money critiquing the mainstream media for never mentioning the greater and continuing crimes of the Chinese regime, including its complicity in the original emergence of the COVID-19 virus and its spread during the pandemic, and many other crimes of that regime.
But I am wondering, what is behind this current lockdown. Of course, it is possible that the Chinese authorities believe in the "zero COVID" approach - but with the extraordinarily virulent vairants that are out there now, that seems even more idiotic than it did at the start of the pandemic. So what is the point? Clearly not the inherent humanism of the regime.
What I think is that the main objective, given how little actual risk there is from COVID, is psychological conditioning of the population. The war in Ukraine perhaps provides cover on the global scale. But honestly that is the only explanation that seems largely logical to me at this point.
