How Phone Addiction Is Taking Over Our Lives

In the modern world, phone addiction has become one of the most significant issues that have affected youths and adults without much noise. I can see people playing with their phones everywhere connecting, chatting, watching videos, and switching apps.

It has become a daily occurrence to the extent that most of us have lost sight of how severe it has become. I have also taken time to ponder over this problem and the more I ponder the more I know that phone addiction is taking a silent lead over our lives.

What people do in the morning one of the first indications of this addiction is. It is true that some people fail to even acknowledge life by saying a short prayer or even thanking God. Their phone is the first thing that their hands feel.

Before they leave the bed, they begin scrolling through social media, responding to messages, and the notifications or even watching videos. People spend all the quiet mornings at their screens, when the morning should be about collecting their strength and getting ready to work. I have observed it in other people and I have also been guilty of doing it before I realized my habit.

Personally, I have sometimes come across individuals who cannot spend a minute without phones. When they are not holding their phone, they experience the feeling of being restless, empty, and uncomfortable. Others even start panicking when the battery is getting low because that device is their entire life.

I recall having encountered a person who was always glancing at his phone within some few seconds during a conversation. They kept their eyes in-between the screen even as we were talking. It was at that time that I realized that there is such thing as phone addiction.

A significant factor that is leading to the increasing addiction towards phone is that phones provide us entertainment, answers and connection at a relatively cheap cost. They distract us of stress, sadness and even boredom.

But doing so, they deprive us of our attention, time, and peace. There are people who can scroll hours and fail to realize that the time has elapsed. It is too late they realize that no productive thing was carried out in the day.

One of the questions that I ask myself sometimes is this one: Am I addicted to my phone? Yes, I do not want to say, but there were moments when I was not able to resist my phone despite the necessity to sleep or concentrate on my work.

This made me think about how unsafe this habit will be. Excessive use of phones may ruin our relationship, make us less productive, influence our spirituality, undermine our mental well-being, and decrease our concentration capacity.

Then, how is the phone addiction solution?

To begin with, we should be self-conscious. The issue must be acknowledged first before it can be resolved. As long as an individual continues saying that he or she is not addicted, they will never improve. I needed to examine my day to day activities and see the amount of time I spent on my phone. It was such a shock on seeing the truth.

Secondly, we have to be able to establish limits. This is a choice on when and how many hours we spend on our phones. As an illustration, we can decide not to touch our phones until we are done praying and planning our day.

It is possible to limit screen-time, deactivate the irrelevant notifications, and leave our phones behind during dinner or a chat. This soft is not so easy at the beginning but easier with time.

The other solution is replacing phone time by more desirable habits. I do not scroll when I am bored, instead, I attempt to read, journal, meditate, or walk around. These practices nourish the mind and soul rather than make them tired.

Physical time togetherness with the people also helps. In person dialogs are richer as compared to internet discussions. At times, going into another room and leaving the phone behind, when communicating to the family or friends, may enhance relationships.

and last but not least, prayer helps. Praying to God to discipline, focus and have self control will lead our way. In the bible 1 Corinthians 6:12, it states that I will not be brought under the power of anything. This makes me remember that my life should not be controlled by nothing even by the phone.

To sum up, the issue of phone addiction exists, and it can be managed. It requires consciousness, discipline and determination to live a better life. Phones are not bad, but when they take over our life as our masters, we forget our role, our concentration and even our tranquility.

I am sure that we all can make little steps and regulate our phone-related use and lead more productive, valuable, and inspired lives. You have a story and telling it can make somebody else break free. Growing together, learning together, becoming better together.

Well said. Phone addiction is a serious issue which we might not yet realise the gravity as we should. And the first step to take is that of self consciousness; agreeing that there's a thing as such as we are guilty of it.

Wonderful write up. I like the scripture you quoted.
