IBT Survival Island - Regular Update

in IBT Survival Island3 years ago (edited)

In these regular updates we will bring fresh content to Hive in the form of our game coding experiences; IBT is a developing PC game - the one to have future Crypto interactions.

What interactions? well it's a good question.

Originally we were looking to have an SMT or token of sorts and yeah make sure these rewards were given to those who have followed IBT from the start. But then the Steem and Hive split thing happened and yeah then everything became so uncertain. The general principal has not changed, we have always approached this as to be in two phases.

Phase One - is to to build a quality product (in this case a game).

Phase Two - is to find a way to interact with a block chain.

While this sounds hard, I don't think it is. When you think about Hive there are allot of simple ways we can do this with API's and we can yeah reward the Hive community with bonuses in our game based on things like how much hive is powered up or how much community interaction and help has been provided along the way. Will we go more full on and have in game crypto currency? ..Note sure, thats allot harder to achieve and depends if we can get help when that times comes (this is likely to see which block chain we end up on).

Anyways on with this weeks update.

Vast open worlds being worked on

Currently we are working on how large we can make the worlds in IBT before the frame rate drops. In a demo of the game we released once before we used level streaming which would unload a world or scene once you left it. The issue with his is at times it still drops frame rates when loading a new area and even "rarely" causes what us nerds call memory leaks where instead of freeing up memory it continues to use it or even uses more than it needs. This is going to be a slow progress but won't affect our demo release which is still currently being packed for distribution. Sadly the necessary covid rules/lockdowns and continued uncertainty has slowed some of our progress down.

UE4 Blendspace (So we don't keyframe every movement)

This is a continue on from last week about key frames and to explain that not every movement is a key frame. If you have a standard movement from point A to point B that requires your skeleton to "easily" move to those points you can use "Blendspace". Blendspace will automatically move your bones from point A to point B using two or more motionless skeletal mesh stances. For example if you are standing with your hands down your sides and your nose is itchy, if I took a picture of you standing with your hands at your sides then another scratching your nose. Blendspace will blend the two animations together without using key frames. So there are other methods to animating your character. In the example here I have a bow animation not drawing a bow string then the bow draws. No key frames were used for this animation only Blendspace and it was two still sequences added together. The green dot going from side to side is selecting the single frame stances.

More work put into IBT Original/classic

It's time to dust off where we left off with IBT classic; in this version of the game, it will play out a bit like the original RPG on Steemit, a bit of a blend of a bards tale and Final Fantasy games with our own special spin to make it unique - we are just completing work on the first town and the NPC and story concepts are starting to be well rounded and fun.

Well, that's it for this week, another busy week and a few steps closer to our goal.

Still looking forward to the game, I really like the wide ope world games like Skyrim and Fallout where the world is big enough to just roam and do your own thing with out actually needing to play the game.

They sound kind of shape keyish in which case just be careful and be aware you may need in between shapes/blends/whatevers :)

In game cryptocurrencies would be pretty cool but I'm not sure how that would work in a survival island situation. Interesting problem for future you :D

Literal airdrops, from spotter planes ;)

That could work XD

Though then one has to wonder why the spotter planes drop supplies but don't send help XP

edit: unless it's a much harsher version of Survivor that everyone is playing XD

..much food for thought

The ocean also washes up many treasures
