IBT Survival Island - Regular Update

In these regular updates we will bring fresh content to Hive in the form of our game coding experiences; IBT is a developing PC game - the one to have future Crypto interactions.

Another punishing week, so just a quick update to get you up to date on how our game is coming along

Snow

Yes, that's right snow and cold weather! Places like Tasmania and Victoria especially are well known for snow and cold weather. The last few weeks have been about trying out weather patterns and adding them to the game. Like most games we will be adding cold/hot, wet and dry environments all affecting what you can find to eat and drink.

Dust storm revisited

While doing the dust storm we noticed that it was an absolute monster. After watching some footage there were times where a dust storm would give you a small amount of vision and then start blowing again plus there was a direction the storm would blow. After pulling out some more hair, (from our nostrils because there isn't any left on our head), we came up with a reasonably good looking dust storm.

Nice and dry

It took a fair while to work out but now you can be sheltered from the rain. Using some of the options UE4 has we created an event when the rain droplets collide with actors. Now if your in a shelter, the rain should stop.

Well, that's it for this week, just a few steps closer to making this game a reality.

Looks like the environments are going really well :D

How big is this island? Actually an uninhabited Australia? :D

hmmn...thinking a mini ngorongoro crater - large enough to support multiple habitats, with varied seasons :)

Well yes technically Australia is an island; but no we won't make the island an empty Australia haha - Sadly I don't have dimensions handy, but yeah the island is big enough that it takes a decent time to run across and it feels like you have been travelling a bit, yet small enough to realise you are trapped and don't have endless resources.
