IBT Survival Island - Regular Update

In these regular updates we will bring fresh content to Hive in the form of our game coding experiences; IBT is a developing PC game - the one to have future Crypto interactions.

An interesting week...would sum it up by saying we were working on things that sit on the surface of the water and, totally unrelated, what happens if you get the crap beat out of you (in the game only).

Float your boat

After quite a number of painful hours of sinking meshes, flipping aerodynamic sky flying boats and angry waved oceans we may have finally started to get things to float on top of the water. This was just an experiment to start with and chews through a bit of processing but if this works correctly (eventually) this will open Pandora's box of the "Open World" principal and allow you to craft a boat and sail off of the island.

Injuries and being hurt

Sometimes a really big jump can cause some pretty bad injuries. Therefore the old rule of look before you leap comes into play. Currently we are working on a system that if you are injured and depending where? it will actually hinder you. For example if you break both legs or ankles, not only will it hurt, but will probably restrict you, like you cannot walk; break an arm you cannot hunt with certain weapons etc.

Well, that's it for this week, a few more small steps the right direction.

I like the floating bobbing boat and boxes, they look pretty cool. I am guessing the underwater squares will get some seaweed and fish and not look like a checkerboard.

First aid kits, magic fix the legs, one shot and walk, but where on the island can I crawl to to get one? Maybe magic poultice to make from weeds, or better yet magic mushrooms they solve all sorts of problems.

I like the injury concept. Makes it more real. Just so long as the recovery time is not to real, like 6 weeks for a broke leg or how ever long it takes to recover from a broken bone.

Its a very good point and I agree, a common fault in most survival games.

We will think on a bit as clearly there is a balance between doing something bad and the resulting punishment; like trying to jump over a cliff and breaking your legs and then crawling around on your belly for the next 6 months of gaming may make it a bit boring (although more challenging). I think probably a gradual healing/improvement of an impairment in line with an accelerated day/night and seasons may be a compromise..Haha I guess taking mushrooms would help...meet papa smurf and drink a potion.

We have tried to make products you can make as realistic as possible, like I don't think it's possible to make some adhesive on the spot by mashing some Kangeroo bones for instance.

I'll discuss with the principal programmer and present some further thoughts.
