Las palabras lisonjeras

parten de labios

adulantes y charlatanes
elogiando con espejos

mágicos, atribuyendo

belleza y virtud a lo

pusilánime y empobrecido
promueven el aplauso

a palabras banas

promueven honores

a ruidosas naderías
promueven extravagantes

colores como grandiosos

fenómenos
Penoso resulta, atestiguar

la devoción a milagros

insustanciales, a falsos eruditos

hábiles en ardides y burdos

engaños.

English Version

The flattering words

depart from lips

that are fawning and chatty,
praising with magic

mirrors, attributing

beauty and virtue to

all that is pusillanimous and impoverished.
They promote applause

for banal words,

they promote honors

for noisy nothings,
they promote extravagant

colors as grand

phenomena.
It is grievous to bear witness

to the devotion toward insubstantial

miracles, to false scholars

skilled in tricks and crude

deceptions.
