Poor women of royalty locked up hidden from the real world.

A world as it was we romanticize when in reality it was cruel, current day remains extreme rich and poor, most still slaves in a different era.

Enjoyed the architecture from the times, most enjoyable travel log of your visit.

Maybe one day I will go into the history a little more. Since the dynasty ended with colonialism and then civil war, the enemies are easy to spot. However, it wasn't an enlightened state, unless slavery and despotic governance is one's idea of enlightenment.

Actual slavery is still very widespread in North Korea and it is discovered on occasion in the South, too. Asides from the sex industry, fishing boats in particular are bad.

Regional history always brings out dubious past, sadness flares up hundreds of years later, never altering the present either.

Human trafficking, child brides, slavery in variety of forms is very evident in many parts of the world. Almost like we have come so far we are almost going backward!

Exactly. Although I do want to roll my eyes when North Korea complains about the tyranny of Japanese imperialism 80 years ago.

I did enjoy my visit to these grounds with you! Wonderful photos, the colors are amazing. I'm one of those people who likes to go to the isolated places, where I can imagine what must have been going on when the buildings were built. These are astonishingly beautiful. Love those chimneys!

disrespecting dead kings is a really bad idea.

That made me laugh out loud.

Thanks. I think the royal palaces and rich areas of the country would have been stunning 100 years ago, however, the places where the commoners lived would have been fairly nasty like most of the world at that time.

Like much of the world today. But I think your royal palace is stunning even still.

Thanks. I like going there as a resident, too.

nice place and a nice travel post. thank you dear friend.

Thank you. Many tourists who come to Korea visit here.

Thank you for sharing. A little escapism from being stuck home all the time :)

The 3rd to last is my favorite photo. I can't believe those are chimneys!

There are actually 4 of them, but only who are here. All the pictures on them are unique. Koreans have used underfloor heating in nice buildings for 1000s of years.

I like the architecture! Quite unique! I wonder how it must have been to live in those times there.

It does look like a great place for a movie set.

Thank you for sharing so many photos and have a lovely day!

Thanks. Back in the day, I imagine unless you were in the royal family, or close to it, which would have been splendid, living near there would have been akin to slavery.

Oh yes, it does look royal friendly. I am not familiar with the asian royalty, I guess all royalties are fortunate. Is there anything different there than in any part of the world?
