A SPECIAL DAY IN PARADISE: Diving in the Philippines.

in The LIFESTYLE LOUNGE4 years ago (edited)

The last few days have felt like the start of a new era, after months of quarantine the restrictions have been relaxed and we have finally got the go ahead for diving. When the Philipppines went in to lockdown like many countries sporting activities were put on hold until there was a better understanding of the covid situation. I'm not sure that anyone really has a better understanding but there is a need to give many economies a kick start and slowly week by week new activities are getting back under way.

Gear set up and ready to dive.

We are limited to the number of divers in the centre at any one time and new protocols have been put in place to negate the chance of infection. My wife is back doing what she loves the most, teaching scuba and as she only has one student @scubahead suggested I joined some of the dives.

Under the watchful eye of Koz.

Her student Kaiden from California had come to the dive centre back in March to get certified as a open water diver, he enjoyed it so much that he decided to change his flights and stay longer to complete more courses. Unfortunately for him a few days later the Philippines was put into lockdown and he was unable to continue, that was not going to put him off, he like a few other tourists took the decision to ride it out in the hope activities would resume in a short while. That didn't happen overnight but he has been rewarded for his patience and now has completed advanced open water and enriched air Nitrox both courses will put him in good stead for a life time of recreational diving, well done mate!

Conditions in the water were near perfect and it seemed like a real treat to be back blowing bubbles among the turtles and fishes. The main attraction here is the sardine storm/run which never fails to entertain. A massive shoal of fish bigger than you could imagine, swirling and darting around you in a mesmerizing display. While Koz busied her self with her student I got to sit back and enjoy the show snapping a few shots along the way.

It was all over too soon but every minute was special, it's been a long time coming and even better I'm back in the water tomorrow. We are moving forward in baby steps and are hopeful for the future, we will get there in time, patience is the name of the game, these are challenging times and nothing is going to change over night.

Good to be back down here.

Wow. All I can say is wow :)

After a long wait it was great to get back in the water, I love it so much I will probably bore people over the next week with my constant banging on about getting back beneath the waves. I'll post something in @mancave soon no doubt:)
