Why freedom of speech is important and why you must fight to protect it

Hey, DBuzz friends.

DBuzz is about protecting our freedom of speech, so today, let's continue the conversation we started in April that you can read HERE. Building on that initial post, let's discuss further the topic of freedom of speech!

Freedom of speech is one of the most critical human rights.

You may also think it's one of the least important, or possibly even unimportant. However, you would be wrong on both counts. It's inconsequential and isn't an 'optional' right, either. Freedom of speech is something that we need to fight for again and again.

It's a right that has been attacked in many countries recently, and with good reason. Dictatorships restrict freedom of speech to stop people from speaking out against them and their corrupt regimes. They know that if people can speak freely, they will quickly lose power because people will know what's going on around them and won't stand for being lied to anymore. And the same goes for anyone who wants to control the masses – whether for personal gain, religious reasons, or anything else – and stopping people from speaking freely is an effective way to do just that...

What is Freedom of Speech?

Freedom of speech is the right for everyone to express themselves without fear of punishment, persecution, or censorship. It's the right to say what you want, when you want, where you want, and how you want to say it.

You can say whatever you want – whether it is something positive, something negative, or something in between. You can also choose who to say it to. You can say it to a handful of people, or you can say it to millions. You can say it using your voice, a computer, a sign, or anything else you can think of.

Freedom of speech is, in the simplest sense, the right to communicate your thoughts and opinions to anyone you want. The only exceptions are when the communication breaks the law – and even then, it's usually only a temporary restriction until the situation has been dealt with.

Why is Freedom of Speech Important?

Freedom of speech is crucial because it allows people to share ideas, beliefs, opinions, and facts.

It allows us to learn from one another, and it allows us to change the ways that we think. It allows people to become more open-minded and accepting of different ways of life. It allows people to understand other cultures and backgrounds and acknowledge the problems and issues others face.

It allows people to find solutions to their problems and understand how others can also solve them. It allows people to express themselves in a way that lets them feel accepted and understood – which is especially important for teenagers.

It allows people to learn to respect all different ways of life, and it allows people to be heard. It allows people to be empowered and to take control of their own lives. It allows people to feel that they are part of something bigger than themselves – and that they are essential and valued. It allows people to understand that they are not alone in their struggles and problems, and it allows them to help others. Freedom of speech is crucial because it allows us to grow as one people.

Why do we need to fight for Freedom of Speech?

Freedom of speech is something that we have to fight for again and again.

It's something that we have to protect by standing up for it and keeping it alive. The fact that we have to keep fighting for it shows that it is not something that everyone respects or values.

People take it for granted, and they don't realize what a difference it makes to people's lives. If we don't fight for it, then it could disappear altogether.

We could lose such a valuable way of communication. If we lose freedom of speech, we are in danger of closing off parts of our culture, society, and ourselves.

Dictatorships like to restrict freedom of speech to stop people from speaking out against them and their corrupt regimes. They know that if people can speak freely, they will quickly lose power because people will know what's going on around them and won't stand for being lied to anymore. And the same goes for anyone who wants to control the masses – whether it be for personal gain, religious reasons, or anything else – and stopping people from speaking freely is an effective way to do just that.

3 ways you can protect Freedom of Speech

  • Be an active citizen. Stay informed and engaged with the world around you. Be a part of your community, and take part in its decision-making processes. It will help you make a difference and protect freedom of speech.
  • Believe in freedom of speech. You don't have to exercise your freedom of speech all the time, but it's important to believe in it. If you don't believe in it, then it is unlikely that others will either.
  • Defend freedom of speech. If you see someone being silenced or repressed, then stand up for them. Let their voice be heard. Let them know that they are not alone and that you will defend their right to express themselves too.

How blockchain technology can protect freedom of speech

The blockchain technology that powers cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Hive is a revolutionary way of storing data and information.

It is an almost unhackable network of computers that uses complex cryptography to store data safely and securely. It is a decentralized network that cuts out the middleman, which is why it is a more secure and, oftentimes, cheaper method of storing data than a central server or cloud. And because blockchain technology is also open-source, it is a highly democratic and decentralized way of controlling information.

As it is a peer-to-peer network, anyone can access the data and change it if they need to – which is why it is so secure.

Freedom of speech is a fundamental human right and needs to be preserved. But censorship is on the rise, and platforms like Facebook and Twitter have been given the power to decide what we see and what we don't see online. This is concerning, as these private companies have no legal obligation to adhere to our freedom of speech.

Blockchain technology is a great way to combat this, as data and information can be securely stored on a public ledger.

Conclusion

Freedom of speech is an essential human right that we need to protect again and again. Without it, we lose parts of our culture and our society, and we lose parts of ourselves too.

Freedom of speech is crucial because it allows ideas, beliefs, opinions, and facts to be shared. It allows us to learn from one another, and it allows us to change the ways we think. It allows us to become more open-minded and accepting of different ways of life. It allows us to understand other cultures and backgrounds and to acknowledge the problems and issues other people face.

It allows us to find solutions to our problems and understand how others can also solve their problems. It allows us to express ourselves in a way that lets us feel accepted and understood – which is especially important for teenagers.

It allows us to learn to respect all different ways of life, and it allows us to be heard. It allows us to be empowered and to take control of our own lives. It allows us to feel that we are part of something bigger than ourselves and essential and valued. It allows us to understand that we are not alone in our struggles and problems, and it allows us to help others.
