Military ceremonies are laced with tradition, including laying you to rest. You can feel the respect that is shown the fallen member, with or without people present. Although one of the more somber traditions for military members, understanding the symbolism behind different aspects of a funeral with military honors highlight the amount of pure respect the community has for their fallen members.
At another time in my life, I will appreciate fully the beautiful service that my brother was given, the full honors, right down to the 21 gun salute, performed with an honor guard team firing three volleys from rifles.
The tradition comes from traditional battle ceasefires where each side would clear the dead. The firing of three volleys indicated the dead were cleared and properly cared for.source

At the end of the service, the flag is removed from the casket and carefully folded by the honor guard. Each fold represents something different and at the end, only the stars are left showing on the top. Once the flag has been properly folded, a few of the shells may be inserted into the back fold before it is presented to the next of kin with an expression of gratitude for the sacrifice they have made.source
I watch the orange leaves glisten in the morning sun, as I watch the fallen join the fallen and finally, my brother can rest in peace. Rest in peace.

Caressed by morning light
Its pathetic to say good bye who are in RIP, you brother got honoured with the protocol of military traditions, maintain all the procedure to him for his departure soul, we can bless him from the soft corner of our heart.

God bless all their souls! My Dad had been one of them laid to rest with such protocol including gun salute. Thank you for sharing dear Denise, lovely memories to reminisce what these loved ones did who dared to give their lives for the country. May the soul of your brother rest in peace!

Oh dear. It's very fresh. 😢 I was reluctant to ask about it because I thought you were just reminiscing a memory from a few years back (like I thought about you having a coffee with your dad). But now that I know, I can't find words to say. However I find this Bible text very comforting, found at Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
God promised that one day soon, the cause for our tears--pain, sorrow, grief, even death, will be done away with. We long for this day to come. But in the meantime, please know that you'll be in my prayers. Take care of your health. ❤

It is easy to battle our sense of entitlement if we simply imagine being in a field overseas, with someone bleeding out beside us, after being conscripted and forced to be there. Then, finding the courage to fight on for future generations .

I can feel the emotion in your last posts as they made my eyes be blurred by tears, I feel so sad of this moment you have lived ! and in the same time I know that is is part of life, to feel sadness about people we feel we are going to miss them as physical beings existing in a body,
but we know deep inside, that, as soul or divine being,whatever we call it, they are forever with us and still existing, we just have to learn a new way of seeing them, but I have no doubt they are still interested in what we are living and they are reachable each time we need it ...❤️

It is hard to describe the pride, hurt and memories that all flow once a loved one departs.
Traditional funerals bestowed upon those who protected a great honour, my brother was a man of the sea with traditional church service, followed a few months later with his daughter and myself burying him and his daughter/sister at sea. Sea farewell was more emotional than the large church service.
My thoughts are with you as I know yours are still very much with your brother Denise.
