Unemployment is a major issue around the world but even worse in a country like South Africa. There are just too many people and too few jobs. People get very discouraged because they apply for jobs and they just never hear anything back from the company. Unfortunately, it is not always about the qualifications but more about who you know.
As if that is not enough of an issue, people are now disqualified because they are overqualified. Is there even such a thing?
We live in an age where people need to start thinking for themselves and create their own jobs. Gone are the days when you just walked into a job and stayed there all your life until you retire. It is said that young people of today will have between eight to ten jobs in a lifetime. They continuously search for better opportunities and are not so scared to take chances.
In earlier days people kept one job to have stability in their lives, and whether they enjoyed their jobs or not, it brought home the bacon. Most mothers were also able to stay at home with the children and people could survive with only one salary.
With the current economic situations all over the world, it is basically impossible for only one parent to work. Everything is too expensive and if you don’t have a double income, then things can get tough. It’s even tough with a double income.
In general, life is tough with all the struggles that we have to go through but what makes it even worse is the number of jobless people just hanging around. There are just so many opportunities out there, and people are not aware of it. People get miserable when they cannot find a job in their field and often just give up instead of creating their own opportunities.
Running your own business needs capital and it is not easy if you are not a business person, but working for yourself can be so much more rewarding than to work for someone else. Although not everyone has entrepreneurial skills, you can easily work together with a group of friends to work things out. Many successful businesses started in a garage somewhere, but that didn’t stop them from making a success.
Being rich is not always the most important thing in the world. We literally just need to survive from one month to the next, but this is not the way most of us want to live. We strive for better and more and ultimately, we put ourselves in a situation where we get stagnant. We feel safe and secure because we know we earn enough money to meet our needs. When we lose our jobs, our whole world comes tumbling down because we are so dependent on that money that we don’t know how to survive otherwise.
When someone is in a situation where they don’t have a job, it is important to do market research. Explore the needs of a community and start a small business that will meet the needs of your community.
If there is a need for a service like a carwash or even a delivery service, it might be a viable option to explore. It might not be what you want to do, but to bring in the money you should be willing to do anything.
It’s better to buy half a bread than to buy no bread. Some people can be very stuck up and refuse to work for less money, but when you are really desperate, it obviously makes sense to do something in the meantime to bring in some money rather than to have no money.
Your small business might be so successful that you might want to keep it on the side if you find a job eventually. You could even appoint someone to take charge of your business so that you can help someone else out.
With the current rate of unemployment, it will be wise for governments to change the policies regarding education.
More focus should be given to entrepreneurial skills so that students learn from a young age what to do in certain situations when they cannot find jobs and they have to take matters into their own hands.
They need to understand the realities of life, and that they cannot always get what they want. This doesn’t mean that they have to give up on their hopes and dreams, but it does mean that they should take initiative to see opportunities when they arise and that they should have a backup in case of an emergency situation.
Online jobs have become very popular and if you search hard enough you will find something. People should just change their views a little bit if they cannot find what they are looking for.
You might even find your dream job online without you even realizing it. We all adapt to situations and often if a change takes place in our lives it is hard at first, but once we get used to it, we can actually start to enjoy our lives again. We just find a new normal.
We should never get too comfortable with what you have because it can disappear just as quickly as it appeared.
