Missing In Action

Dilemma Over - I'm Back!

Hopefully faster than the Shongololo Trail - Red Millepede Black Legs

The old, old story of not doing daily tasks and keeping up to date to avoid the mad rush. Of late I tend to put things on the back burner sometimes just wishing them away. Prime example is doing bookkeeping, taxes or medical aid renewal versus Hive, I know which one normally wins!

Maybe A Question Mark Or Two... Black Millepede with Sexy Red legs in the garden

Alas time always catches up, and yes although I have not written in almost 3 weeks I pop in daily and still keep contact wherever possible. No use chirping about it, we need to do what we must, and move along.

The Male Pin-tailed whydah (Vidua macroura)

Around the home watching the Pin-tailed Whydah protecting seed is much more pleasurable to sitting in front of a computer all day long.

The Chase Is On

Sweet in song, aggressively chases birds big or small, everyone make way for Cheeky a Pin-tailed whydah (Vidua macroura) and his entourage of ladies it has been fun to break the days watching his antics.

The Female Pin-tailed whydah (Vidua macroura)

A full report back on this little guy will follow, quite a feisty fellow who dresses for the occasion, starting from dawn ending at dusk impressing the ladies in town. Oh he does not build a home but borrows, his little ones will be hatched in the nest of a common waxbill, who fully foster and raise the parasitic pin-tailed whydah chicks.

He Looks Similar To The Ladies After Breeding Season

Cheeky even had a go at Woody to his total confusion poor dog, going toward the bird feeder to inspect which he does periodically he got bomb dived...

Woody "Was That The Bird"...

Last few weeks have been tedious to say the least, some unusual some not so much, garden kept me entertained and sane in between...

Lock the gate at the end of the day, perhaps not today, not sure what reptile species was locking up so neatly!

Slithering Snake Lock...

Phew, thankfully I have caught up, if we celebrated Thanksgiving, it would be the last three weeks of doing, not pontificating, yes I am thankful for reaching this point! Still more bits and bobs to complete, the big chunk is done and dusted!

Clouds Dancing Across The Sky At End Of Day

Now able to relax and return to sharing more about our holiday away, birds, flowers, trees and what no things I truly enjoy reciprocating in every way with peeking through the lens of friends around the world. Have a wonderful day, start to weekend, Happy Thanksgiving for all my friends celebrating today!

Yes that’s true that’s why I just did my Black Friday shopping

And that black red friend is gorgeous

They put prices up to bring them lower for the day, I have never bought on Black Friday. Enjoy your shopping perhaps you do get some great discounted items!

I'm glad to see you're back, Joan, and wish you a wonderful weekend 😊

Yup Johann I am glad to relax and enjoy now too.

Oh, we had the more nasty Centipede on the mat in the kitchen, I should have photographed it. Woody almost laid down on it... mat and all out the door to move this one outside, they are able to give a sting similar to scorpion.

All creepy crawlies out with abundant rain this year.

Will celebrate achievement later today with sun-downer !BEER have a great weekend.

Our Millipedes are very small and I know them only in black. The Centipedes are bigger and orange. I like the Millipedes but wouldn't touch the others because it says they bite or sting. The ones you have are much more scary, of course 😱 you would probably only smile if you'd see ours 😉

Enjoy your !BEER in the evening and have a great weekend too 🌞

All get air freighted out of the house so as not to harm them, slithering or otherwise. Big world outdoors no sharing my space if I can help it.

Definitely no disruptions when settling down to a !BEER from creepy crawlies indoors 😄

"Air freight" ... a little movie was playing in my head when I read these words - I like that 🤣
Wish you a wonderful week Joan 😊🌞

Glad to hear you're catching up on necessary stuff, and more glad to see these awesome captures! I especially love those whydah shots - I've never seen such a small bird with such a long tail! Hope the rest of your catching up goes smoothly.

More decision making to come, one day at a time, sorting through things that have piled up, the "have to do" is done at least.

Birds have been a surprise never having had this little one in the garden before, have seen them inland, something new to enjoy watching this little rascal.

I once saw a really huge colourful metallic centipede when I was hiking to a waterfall in one of the rainforest. SUPER beautiful but scary at the same time.

Millepede in photos not poisonous just roll up and poo on you, Centipede we had inside the kitchen last week I did not photograph in a hurry to get it out the house, they are able to give a nasty sting.

I think if I touched that huge centipede last time, I wouldn't even be here. Haha it was scary.

Glad you didn't Isaac, some can leave a nasty impression for awhile.

Dang! These millipedes are really pretty!
I'm actually fond of them, unlike centipedes.

We have so many around the garden at the moment with recent rain, all sizes and colours!

That lesson of putting things off, bit me today!
We all woke up to one loud bang in the middle of the night, the guests thought it was monkeys and went back to sleep so weren't alarmed at all! We couldn't see anything but when the sun came up we saw that it was our giant pawpaw tree that had collapsed onto the cottage roof, damaged the overhang and cracked a couple of tiles but not too much damage; been saying it's getting too tall and should perhaps remove it but did nothing!
That looks like a grass snake, we also have them, one was under our pool pump cover, don't know who got the biggest fright, the snake or me;);)
Woody looks like such a gorgeous dog!
Have a nice...windy...weekend Joan!

Yes we do tend to wait for another day and then it bites us later... Sorry to hear that pawpaw tree came down doing damage, now it is down.... not so!

We have had a few around of late, I give all a wide berth only photograph and let them be they do so much good around the garden.

Woody is a lovely/loving furry friend, quite expressive at times.

Yup enjoying this cooler weather, can throw open all the windows and enjoy hear the birds singing outside.

A nice post, a great story, dear @joanstewart!

Thanks for visiting @olgavita

Ah, glad to see that you have also got a "King of sixes" Lady Joan.
Whydah's named as such, as they always have six wives.
Yes and that little guy will bomb anything in his proclaimed territory.

Green snake and no large eyes is quite safe to handle. Just never attempt to handle a green Mamba in the same way, as it will be a time for prayers 🙏

A lovely post and glad that you climbed the mountain of stacked up chores!

Blessings to you guys!

Cheers and !BEER

Cheeky knows no end to actively charming/chasing, at least 3 months now and many laughs at his over eagerness. Perhaps if he and his harem raised the young themselves, they would not be so keen on reproducing at the rate they do....

My knowledge of snakes is to let them go along their merry way, admire from a distance.

Now to clear up websites and make decisions, each year many ideas that have not panned out, time for change!

Ah, so you named him "Cheeky" a very fitting name for that beautiful little bugger.
One of them had a fight with himself in my car's mirror last year and it was a big laugh.

Snakes can be fun as long as you know which ones to play with 🤣

My new way is already at hand. Ignore all except the most urgent 😁

Have a good new week my friend!

Wow! What a perfect photography dear.
I am just thinking how you capture the shots of the snack :O

Just seeing unusual happenings around the garden, never go outdoors without a camera, thanks for visiting @hafizullah

That black-and-white bird with the red bill is so pretty! 😊 I'd not heard of the Whydah species, so thanks for introducing it to us! And that's kinda freaky, how the snake is locking the gate for you! 😬 It is so cool seeing things in a part of the world I've never visited!

Small bird with great big attitude, snake added a laugh on the route it took, so glad you enjoyed and visited.

Great reminder that I shall live up to today as I've been putting off a few things during the weekend (when I feel it's sort of aloud haha) .. thank you for the reminder :)

The more we delay doing a task the worse it becomes, yup catch up now 😅

Yes, I'm working on it :) haha

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Beautiful your publication, I love your photographs and the analogy you make with the day to day. The centipede left me speechless, I am somewhat afraid of it, one day I was bitten by one in bed and it was not a pleasant experience I assure you hahaha. However, this one is a beauty and believe me I understand when you prefer to be distracted in the garden and not spend the day on the computer. Everything has its time, and sometimes the time of day is not enough for everything we want to do, even in quarantine (it happens to me). I leave you a hug and my love from here, my dear, it is always a great pleasure to enjoy your lines and your photographs.@joanstewart

Never enough time in a day to do what we must, normally lean toward doing what we feel like! Thanks for lovely visiting and comment @marybellrg, yes we tend to lose time during this pandemic which I have now given up on it appears it is here to stay!

Yep there is no argument about that we must do what is important and it sounds you needed that time away from the computer and it's great to see you back @joanstewart , i do love that Red Millepede with the Black Legs i have never seen one in that color before 👍

At the moment it is very much a case of watch where you walk, plenty of crawlies all around with rain then bursts of heat in between. So many millipedes this year, glad you enjoyed the red one and thanks for kind comment @kohsamui99

I suppose it is that time of the year rain and heat will bring them all out but nice to see especially when they are a pleasure to look at 👍

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good day
I'm very sorry for your absence, I hope it's all good over there.
I loved your post, all these beautiful images that you show us and the fun that is in your garden, even your most height enjoys it.
thank you very much for this beautiful post
have a wonderful day

We make our own problems by evading what needed to be done, LOL back again this time hopefully learn to keep tabs on everything. Have a great day and thanks for kind comment @jlufer

Waoo what a beautiful bird, you took some very good pictures, I congratulate you. And the close up of the dog was great.

Ha ha Woody was startled by this little invasion in the garden, yes Whydah gives a grand display of being a brat around the seed feeder @tripode

I get busy in real life with things and sometimes I let online life slip behind.
I have things going on and sometimes the balance gets messed up.

Most days are a bit of a juggling act depending on how good the internet is for anything of late @ambiguity thanks for visiting.

I hate snakes, but know that they have a place in our environment, so I let them be. That bird is cool.. such a long tail! Woody really is mesmerized by them.. so cute 😊

Back on track it sounds. It is very hard for me to balance Hive out with important life stuff, but that's okay to take a break and get it done. Glad your finding some time to catch up.

Fit in with nature as best as possible, admire some avoid others.

Catching up proved to take it's time, done and dusted now to keep it up to date again @bdmillergallery thanks for visiting and kind comment.

Some times you have to go MIA just because there are bugs and birds and flowers that need watching. Seriously.

That whydah species doesn't raise their own young at all? I'd guess they aren't much for family reunions, are they?

That Woody is a likely looking dog. Good boy.

What ever the reason, I'm glad you are back Joan!

The Whydah spends all it's time placing eggs in others nests to be raised, lazy but sound familiar to some humans, nothing in life doesn't happen in nature they say....

Woody is a great companion, just too friendly that many don't enjoy, Whydah must have thought he would steal the seed off the feeder.

Great to be back in good company once again Tom, yes you do miss making it to everywhere you normally go, not going to sweat it on our slow internet connection, do what I am able in a day...

Sam shares that with your Woody. Likes everybody and everything except squirrels and cats. I keep trying to get him to bite the UPS guy or the mailman but they know it's a fraud :)

Well, one nice thing about slow internet. You can pretend it's the good old days! :)

Sam would then enjoy chasing monkeys and cats in my garden although Woody has calmed down a bit with monkeys of late.

Oh guys doing deliveries say Woody is the friendliest dog he has ever met,big bark no bite... digging endless holes after moles, hit and miss affair more misses!

We have not stepped into the era of anything over 4g, so very antiquated systems still here 😂

Oh, procrastination only ever gets me in trouble! So, I am likely to not, however, it is mighty tempting!

I still love that birdfeeder/birdbath and I think I will leave the gate unlatched myself!

Put off for too long, then the mad dash to complete. Should know better it bounces back and bites you in the bum.

Gate was locked much, much later when slithery friend had made it's way to wherever it was slithering to. Have a wonderful day and take care Denise @dswigle

Nice close up photos, good job !

Good fun enjoying life through the lens @orlandumike have a great day!

Amazing photographs, especially the one of the snake locking up, and welcome back.

Really took the long way around @owasco perhaps a little behind on schedule as well.... Have a great day and thanks for visiting.

Those worms are frighteningly beautiful, the birds are beautiful and your pet seems to be confused by your love of birds. Maybe he's jealous? Excellent photos.
