Mortal Candles | Velas Mortales

Hello, Hivers. Hola, Hivers

Today I wanted to share with you a writing challenge that I am doing (I found it on Pinterest). It is about writing in response to a daily message, the third is "candle". I hope you like the story...

Mortal Candles | Velas Mortales

He woke up at midnight and everything was dark. He knew he should have charged his phone before going to sleep, and because of his laziness now, he had nothing to light up with. He wasn’t a coward but darkness wasn’t his best friend so he decided to stay in bed and try to fall asleep again. He tried every sleeping position existing but he couldn’t sleep, not with that deafening silence. “I’ll open the window” he said, “Maybe the moonlight can light a bit more the room” So he opened the window and discovered he was right. A poor, blueish light took over the room and calmed its owner, who sighed relieved and went back to bed.

Grrrrrrishhhh

He rose startled with his eyes out of its orbits. What was that? It sounded like furniture, you think…?

Rassshhhhhhhhh

Oh, god. What was making so much noise? Was it the dog? He looked beside the bed and the dog was asleep there “What a good guardian” he said. If it wasn’t the dog, what, who was it? He was alone, his wife and children were out of the city. Each minute that passed made him regret more the fact that he didn’t charged his phone, if it was a thief he had nothing to call the police with, he was lost, he was in danger, but, what level of danger? Should he go out to investigate? NO! it was his imagination, he was so sleepy that he was beginning to imaginate things. Maybe those noises where made by the neigbors, and… He heard steps out of his door. IMAGINATION!! He had to fall asleep, nothing bad could happen to him as long as he fell asleep. The thief wouldn’t feel threatened, so he would steal what he wanted without needing to hurt him.

Oh Dios. ¿Debería salir a investigar?

Then he saw a yellowish light coming right from the crevice of the door. Was the electricity back? “I’m gonna check,” he said and walked to the door. When he opened it, he saw a line of candles in front of him that led to the stairs, each candle about to melt away. Was it a surprise from his wife? Was she back? He walked beside the candles and realized that between them there was a line of some sort of liquid, hmm, curious. He stepped on it to checks it’s texture and it was a bit greasy, “gross!”

When he got to the stairs he found out that that was the end of the candle road, and when he turned around, the first candle was over and the fire was going in a line to take the other candle, but how?... wait, it was gasoline. What should he do? it was going too fast and the candles were stuck to the floor. Maybe if he would’ve ran he could’ve saved himself, but he looked at himself; his feet were wet of gasoline and the fire began to climb on his toes. He couldn’t get rid of it. He slipped and fell getting soaked in the gas puddle that now surrounded him. In a matter of seconds, his whole body was engolfed by fire. He screamed, he cried and….

I was just laughing. Those cameras I recommended him to install were the source of my enjoyment. I knew he was stupid enough to fall in the tramp. Nobody, ever, make fun of me and live to tell it…

Solo me estaba riendo.
