30 Days Blog Challenge (Day 5) - Your Proudest Moment

in The LIFESTYLE LOUNGE4 years ago (edited)

Feeiing proud of yourself can be one of those moments where words cannot express the sensation it provides,it's a feeling we rarely experience in life that makes us feel honourable and blissful within, even if the feeling is experienced through others.
I first had this feeling when I was still very young, I think I was nine or ten years old then. I remember how hungry I was on that particular day, knowing quite well mom has gone to the market. My older siblings were all out, but I was home hungry.

What will I do now? Was a question I kept on asking myself, then a thought hit me to cook myself a meal (but I laughed at the idea, because I know then, that I can't cook😂😂😂). But I was so hungry, how bad can the cooking get? I asked myself. I went to the store room to see what we have left, all I saw was Yam and Beans, oh God! That was the first thing that cross my mind, yam wouldn't feel my stomach and beans take time to get cooked. Well, I settled for beans, I selected the beans to remove dirty from it, then put it on fire with some potash to make it get cooked faster. There I was waiting for my beans to get cooked, then I started preparing all my ingredients that was needed for my beans. While doing that, I ask myself, why not make beans porridge instead of just beans? I quickly pick the yam and cut a portion for my beans. After sometime, I noticed how soft my beans was and I removed the water, now I questioned myself, what does mommy normally do? 🤔🤔 Well as a novice in the cooking game, I put my beans back in the pot, throw the yams inside, put my ingredients and some palm oil and then I mix them together.

I watch the beans closely, during the period of doing all this, I was not feeling hungry anymore, instead I was enjoying the rubbish I was doing 😂😂😂😂. While I was waiting for the water in my beans to dry out I heard my mom's voice, finally she's home, as she approach our house my older siblings voices were also noticed. I ran out to meet my mom, with that joy I told her I prepared beans porridge, she was shocked, and begin to yell at my older siblings for leaving the house without preparing food for me. She entered the house, went straight to the kitchen, she opened the pot and it was beans porridge, she was surprised, in her own words, she said, you made this yourself? I replied saying yes, she deep the spoon inside and taste it, she smiled, and said, it taste nice.

Hearing her say that, made me smile so loud, I was feeling all proud and fly. But then she turn to me and say, never make anything without someone watching you, what if you'd get a burnt from the stove, no one would have been here to help you. And then she said, you actually did great with the beans but the pepper is much. 😂😂😂 I did not care about the but part, I was happy she praised my first cooking, and she praised it for weeks 😂😂😂. She corrected the method I used in preparing my meal, and taught me the right way, from that day, I was always watching her cook in the kitchen and was asking a lot of questions. I got even more closer to her and I felt really proud of myself because I was already doing something a lot of my peers have no idea of. That moment changed so much about me, I love the feeling I was getting that day and the days afterwards, it was amazing. And since that day up until now, beans porridge has remain my favourite meal.😂😂😂
