Attic windows installation

in Homesteading2 years ago

Yesterday we managed to complete the task that we had planned since the construction of the house - to install windows in the attic.

True, so far only 2, but four are needed, but this is a big progress, now there will be normal ventilation in the attic, natural light as the windows face south and I can make shelving for seedlings, and in the future build additional living space in the attic.

Unfortunately, I'm not a very good blogger, because I photograph only a small part of what I do, and sometimes I don't photograph it at all. That's about what happened with the windows. I did not film the process of cutting holes in the wall, and I sawed them with an electric saw, which also had to tinker with due to oil leakage, and also did not film the process of cutting and painting the window sill, and I also did not film the process of installing windows.

But I filmed a funny moment of descent from the attic of OSB sheets, which are needed for the completion of the porch.

It so happened that when building the roof, I had extra sheets left, which I decided to temporarily store in the attic and put them on the walls for the room. But they were needed for other tasks, and to lower these sheets from the attic turned out to be impossible, since the attic stair are narrower than OSB sheets.

Therefore, we had to combine two things - windows installation and the descent of these sheets. The process of descent itself can hardly be called descent. My wife and I just threw them out of the hole cut for the window.

It turned out funny.

After that, the windows themselves were installed. The process of installing windows is quite simple, since this is not the first time I have done it.

Special fastener plates are attached to the windows, a lining board is installed outside so that the window does not fall out, well, the window is simply installed further into the opening, it is fixed and foamed.

It took 4 hours for everything about everything, including all measurements, sawing, painting, ejecting OSB and actually installing windows.

Now it will be necessary to finish the shingles on this side of the house and finally the southern facade will be finished. And ahead is still the north facade, the porch, the vegetable storage...
