This week I have been working hard on an important aspect of my herbal homestead. Savings seeds!
As an herbalist I am always looking for trusted sources of seeds for the herbs I grow. And this week & last I've been volunteering at a community farm that grows all kinds of flowers.
Sunflowers, hollyhock, basi, mint, pink yarrow, milkweed, zinnias, and - of course - calendula.
Once I got home I set the seeds out to dry for a few days. I also sorted the seeds to remove any dried petals and leaves that might have fallen in.
In the next waxing quarter moon I will plant these crescent-shaped seeds (calendula) in pots of my garden. Soon enough my garden will be full of their medicine!
Oh I'm definitely collecting calendula seeds soon for the next place! In fact I'll be on a massive seed saving mission - lots going to seed now.
Perfect timing to set up your future flower garden. I love the idea of different gardens having a genetic link with one another 💐🌺

That is a lot of Calendula! I have been saving seeds from this years flowers and veggies. They are drying on paper plates and almost ready to package. It saves so much money every year. I put up a lot of dried herbs to make tea blends. Just need to decide how to blend them; still learning.
It is a huge money saver. That is how I feel I get "paid" for my time spent volunteering ~ I always end up with seeds & herbs 🌿
