Luffa gourds come to mind. We've been trying to grow them for a couple years now, but we have to start them in January because of their long growth cycle. We always lose most of them just moving them from their starter pots to the ground. I've tried starting them in peat pots, so they'll be less disturbed during transplant, but few of them lived long enough to even go outside. This year I'm going to try moving them into larger pots once before they go outside, hoping I can get a larger root mass on them and that the extra roots will help.
