I had to rack my head and think deeply to remember a decision that felt like it was gonna be a piece of cake that later back fired.
Oya, let me take you on a journey of my farming experience. Ladies and Gentlemen. I acquired a plot of land and as an Investor that I am 😂, I thought it wise to plant as I wasn't ready to build ( if you check how much bag of cements costs you will know why). Afterall, everyone around my region was farming one thing or another.
Since, I don't have any experience with farming and I was some sort of well known figure in my area, I decided to speak with some guys that I know farmed for people. I was very confident that they'd do a perfect Job .
As they were professionals and I was gonna pay them, at least the little I could afford. I didn't see the need to follow them to the land to supervise, I thought all I just needed to do was give instructions. Na here the whole matter start dey cast oo. Hmmmm. I'm trynna calm down righ naw bet ooh lord Almighty.
Before then, I took one of the guys to the plot of land so he'd know where they'd plant. Sheyb if you didn't know the place again or you forgot you'd call and I'd give direction abi no be so? Isokay, let me not jump. Come along with me oo.
It was time for them to spray the land, they called the chemical selective, why? How I wan take know? I sha bought the thing, the shop owner gave me better discount I was already happy thinking of the way my rice go boku when Harvest season come. Oya I don give una the sontin 1 week, 2 weeks... Haan, una don go? No ooh. Why? Story... Story ...
I sha vex collect the thing, I gave it to one of the cleaners at the office who also does the same thing and had met me before sef but I form no ooh, I already spoke to my area guys.
Later that day, I received a call from Emma.
Emma: Boss e be like rapture don happen for your Land oo, I no dey see anything here .
Me: You say what? I don't understand. I'm coming.
As I reach. My brethren, I no see anything too o. I come dey wonder wait, abi this guy's go cook my rice chop for house ni?
I sha called one of the other guys. Remember when I said something about if you don't know the land sheyb you'd call abi? Tor, they planted my rice on the plot next to mine.
My head wan scatter. To make matters worse, the rice wasn't sufficient for the entire field and they didn't tell me. Hmmm, I nearly crewed ( past partipisuu of cry)
Thank God for connection oo, turn to your neighbor and say "who no sabi person go suffer" I sha made a few calls and the person allowed me to use his land. I don dey happy say okay oo the matter never too cast like that, I'd just hand over to Emma.
Emma showed promise and I felt like I had escaped the worst that could happen. He met me occasionally to tell me he needed to check the farm and all, I dey sha sort am sontin as it was close to his house.
Fast forward to when I got back from my trip and I said okay oo let me go and check my beautiful rice farm in anticipation of a bountiful harvest. By the way, I didn't tell Emma oo.
Obara Jesus! When I saw the land like this... I wan faint but I could not cos the whole place was water logged and make I no go drown. I couldn't tell the difference of the rice farm with a forest, the grasses where overgrown, the rice leaves (abi what are they calling it) were already looking yellowish, I just jejely pack my myself went home and lamented to my Wife.
After that day, I just left the farm abi na forest like that anything wey wan happen make e happen I no do, I later called Emma cut am better warning like this, baba just dey tell me "sorry sir, kaii sorry boss."
He met me recently that he wants to buy sickle for harvest, the way I look am ehn, nobody told him to leave my side.
And that's the end of my Story.
