Hi, why would it be considered vote selling?

I completely agree that we shouldn't ask people to vote in the post to enter giveaways, and that's why I don't ask for it in mine, and ask for Ecency points.

That's why I'm surprised you consider it vote selling.

Hmmm, is this like automated thing, and I should go to Hivewatchers Discord to ask about it??

Hi. Ecency points can be exchanged to buy votes and other things, so it is selling.

We can't use Ecency points to buy votes, so it's not selling nor buying votes. We can only do 3 things with Ecency points:

  1. Transfer them. Like any other token.
  2. Use it to promote the post in the main/trending feed. The same thing peakd does but we use Ecency points instead of Hive.
  3. Boost, we can get a HP delegation for 7, 30 or 90 days.

Yeah, what about that? They are just renting their HP, is the same thing as renting HP on Hive Engine, but instead of paying with HIVE they accept Ecency points.

That doesn't mean you are buying votes from the people that you are renting HP from.

It's vote selling. Regardless if its token, hive, or fiat. Besides that it's not a giveaway because nothing is given away. It's sold.

1.) It is a giveaway for 3 simple reasons:

  • They can participate for FREE without sending Ecency points, and all entries are treated the same way.
  • The prize does not depend on how many Ecency points the winner sent.
  • Only one person receives the prize, and they are randomly selected.

2.) Ecency does not sell votes. One thing is Hive Power renting/leasing and another thing is vote selling, that's something really simple to understand.

If HP delegation were vote selling, no curation project would be able work on Hive.

  • People that delegate to any curator project like OCD, Aliento, Curie and receive an upvote from them would be considered as vote buyers
  • Qurator shouldn't be sending 80% of all curation daily to their HP delegators, and Leo shouldn't be sending LEO to their HP delegators because they are actually paying a rental fee to their delegators for their HP.
  • Hive Engine wouldn't have a market for HP leasing if that were considered vote selling.

That's why Ecency renting their HP is not vote selling.
