Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires, Argentina

In January this year, I have had a reunion with Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. This amazing city is not only known for its great food and wine, but also culture, history, monuments and museums among others. One of my favourite buildings in Buenos Aires is Casa Rosada. It's located at Plaza de Mayo in the center of the city. I find building with it’s beautiful architecture and striking pink color very attractive. Both because of it’s beauty, but also because of it’s historical significance. It was from the balcony of Casa Rosada that president Juan Perón and his wife Eva Perón, also known as Evita, talked to the people. Perón was the president of Argentina from 1946 and untill he was overthrown in 1955. She was an actress, but when she became the first lady in Argentina, she made use of that positon to fight powerty and women's rights. She became a legend that is is not forgotten.

When standing in front, looking up at the balcony, I can almost hear the song "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". It's been many years now, but I remember seeing the musical "Evita", which is precisely about the life of Argentina's first lady, Eva Duarte Perón, from a young age and until her death. The musical was written in the 1970s and the film with Madonna and Antonio Banderas from the 90s (I think) have probably also done their part to have immortalized the memorie of her.

It’s possible to do a free guided tour in some areas of Casa Rosada. Behind the building there is a museum, called Casa Rosada Museum. The museum is placed on the exact place where the original fort built in 1580 by the Spanish was located. When Argentina got its independece from Spain, the fort changed to function as customs house. Some of the remaining walls are still here. A visit is a great way to get an insight in the history of Argentina.

Thanks. Yes, the meaning of the name Casa Rosada is " pink building". It stands out on that plaza because of the color.

Oh wow! And Casa means building. Nice, I learned something new today. Thanks.

I'm sure with that colour, it will surely stand out! 😊
