The Isis temple of Philae is located on Agilkia island in Aswan, in southern Egypt. Isis is known as the goddess of love. It was here in this temple that she found the shattered body and heart of her husband Osiris. She is known to have given him his life back.

Since it is on an island, you can only get here by boat. The temple is divided into rooms / courtyards and you start in a forecourt before reaching the inner courtyard. In the right tower in the picture above, a writing has been bricked in which gives the priests the right to collect taxes from local fishermen.

The temple was originally built on the island of Philae which is located in the Nile just north of the city of Aswan. The construction of the Aswan dam was begun in the 1960s. This process would have led to both this temple and others, such as Abu Simbel, would be flooded. This fact led to a large-scale effort to save these temples. Both Abu Simbel and the Isis temple were moved to higher ground. Where the Isis temple stands today, there is no danger of flooding. It is considered one of the most beautiful temples in Egypt. A peaceful place to walk around and enjoy the architecture and carvings.
