Hey, I'm Kyle Jacobs [Root] and I make Erotic Graphic Novels. -- Ask me Anything.

I made this #artvsartist2020 today and realized I was making a portfolio, so I am sharing that portfolio here.

You can also look at my project history here -- I've created 20 Projects on Kickstarter. Some have been more successful than others.

Projects started Dec '17, and have included:

  • Monthly 10 page Astrological Sex Comic [Completed 6-8 of them]
  • Final Fantasy Fan Comic Shorts [Completed one 10 page and 2 strips]
  • 48 Page Dystopian Cyberpunk Porn Comic + 8 page extension.
  • 30 Page Fantasy Sex Comic about Elves and Goddesses, and a King. Liberty | Death.
  • A handful of GIFs and single page projects.
  • A 4 page Warcraft lesbian elf short comic

Projects that have failed due to my own lack of experience:

  • Autonomous Dildo - Mechanic Cyberpunk Woman creates Frankenstein Boyfriend Fuckbot
  • Jungian Inspired Tarot Deck
  • I also feel like Pornoscopes wasn't really shipped, since I didn't finish all of the signs, and kind of petered out / ran out of funding.

.:.

Around Dec '19, I decided to go all in on a public domain adaptation for a full length, erotic graphic novel with a pre-existing fanbase. This has been a success so far, and I've raised more USD for this project than all of my projects in 2019 combined.

The project is a ~88-100 page Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Erotic Graphic Novel, and you can find the beta version of that comic on my blog here on HIVE.

.:.

The most interesting thing I'd like to do with HIVE, apart from blog and curate, is that I'd really like to start an artist collective that focuses on comic project execution. -- Which is why I created Hierophant DAO.

I'd like to share my experiences in making small scale graphic novels and comics work, so that people can leapfrog some mistakes, and get qualified to collaborate with me effectively on projects. I think a combination of Ethereum DAOs [Colony.io], and HIVE Community participation would make a good financial cornerstone for the collective component of Hierophant DAO.

Beyond that I'm just about helping artists who are serious about what they are doing move beyond pin-ups and one-off commissions, toward more project based individual goals, and into more collectivized efforts, like collaborations with marketing DAOs, developers, or other artists with anthology work.

I think realistically the best way for me to do this is just to continue to execute projects myself, and be transparent with people about how I'm doing these things, so they can model their work after mine, and then get some of their own momentum -- in this sense, I feel like my work mimics the ethos of the open source community.

I don't see myself as an expert, but more as an enthusiastic person looking for other people that are interested in regularly jumping off cliffs with me -- in the proverbial sense.

Go ahead and ask me anything, and I'll get around to answering within a day or so.

Cheers HIVE.

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said you make erotic graphic novels. Did you go to school for art?

Thanks for being part of this Community.

Impressive artworks! Maybe an obvious question, but I would love to know this from each author/artist: do you draw from personal experiences/memories or is your work (mostly) fictional?

Thanks -

A lot of my work is just my own sex fantasies, in a superficial sort of sense.

Pornoscopes: Taurus, for example, -- I just thought it would be funny and sexy to have a woman harvesting cum from a bunch of tree cocks.

Taurus.png

But also when I was younger there was this woman I met in the forest, who basically gave me a blowjob, and then swallowed, and said "thank you" and then started to walk away.

She was a Taurus, her sun sign.

I ended up befriending, for a while, and found out that she felt like sperm had anti-depressant properties, and that her life was better when she ate cum regularly.

So, you get a sort of mixture of four approaches here:

  • Taurus signs are earthy and into food. [Forest and harvesting cum like maple syrup.]
  • Sex Fantasy layer - which is basically, what I think would be hot, or sexy or attract attention, or what attracts my attention, or what I think would make a good scene.
  • Fictional Layer - If there is a narrative, this is where it goes. This would include some formal plot construction ideas.
  • Personal Experience Layer - So this would be where I put all of my emotional content, or past / current experience into the work.

When I'm doing commission work for people, it's mostly their sex fantasies created in a way that I think they will like.

Thanks for the answer! Certainly high-complexity novels then, I commend you. It is truly fascinating where inspiration comes from and this example certainly gave me an idea. I am happy you are finding a home on Hive.

Sure thing Marq - Thanks for saying hello.

Did you ever read any cyberpunk fiction? What drew you to cyberpunk?

Whan kind of sci-fi do you like beside cyberpunk/dystopian ? Any favourite titles?

Not much.

Enders Game Series really moved me.
Ursula Le Guin of course.
I'm famililar with most all of Philip K Dick's work.

There is basically a Top 100 Sci Fi torrent for audiobooks and I downloaded it and have been chipping away at it for a while.

Sometimes I have real trouble with Sci-fi, because the words of the alien races and stuff like that really don't mesh with me.

It's like a lot for me to remember. I didn't do so well with the LOTR for that reason as well.

Cryptonomicon - Stephenson
Out of the Silent PLanet - Lewis
Slaughterhouse 5 - Vonnegut

Read those.

Also listened to a star wars radio drama recently which was cool.

I had the same feeling when reading books that take place into contructed complex huge new worlds. The lord of the rings though feels familiar, probably because it is inspired by european myths.

I've been a big fan of Philip Dick as well.
Also enjoyed Robert Silverberg, Frederick Pohl, Ray Bradbery and all the ones from the golden age.

I havent been reading much sci-fi the last few years but often think of checking out the non-american sci-fi scene. A few stuff i read from chinese, indian and russian sci-fi had a refreahing new way of writing.

That's interesting. I hadn't thought to check out non-english work. I would suppose translations are freely available.

I'm not familiar with Silverberg or Pohl.

Any recommendations?

I get what you mean a bit about the constructed complex huge new worlds.

It's a bit much to handle sometimes. Like the whole xenobiology angle of the enders game series, toward the end of them -- when Ender is out traveling at light speed to new worlds, etc.

Took me a decent amount of time and multiple attempts to really feel the strength of that book.

I remember reading Silverbeg's 'Sailing to Byzantium' and liking it a lot.
Frederick Pohl has written a lot of short stories, besides his books, a good way to take a taste.

I usually prefer short stories, novellas and standalone books. Reading a three or a five book series seems to big of a 'commitment' and time is often limited.
I did enjoy reading some of the 'Dune' books, though not all of them.

Translations of non-us works are very interesting because they are set in a real context of another culture. Check women sci-fi writers from India if you want something refreshing, i don't remember titles unfortunately.

4 torrents with 25 books each :D

No, you can actually find one torrent with 100 books + the whole enders game series.

But if you include hunger games, and PKD collection and mistborn series then it's 4 torrents with ~160 books

years ago there was a torrent named 100 best sci-fi audiobooks. it was 4 torrents with 25 in each, and from the titles that you mentioned looked exactly like that :D

i could listen enders game series again.

This is probably a variation of that one.

The enders game series was excellent.

Some of the short stories included are downers -- a lot of child abuse allegories that make me feel sad and uncomfortable.

But the main series really captured my attention.

I classify HARD science fiction like Asimov, or Stranger in a Strange Land, or something like that -- and I've never really gotten the bug for either of those.

A lot of my aesthetic leads to fantasy. Like Drizzt. And I also really loved the Mistborn series.

Upvoted for bobs.

Yea - It's a crazy thing. Bobs love to be upvoted and painted.

nice pussys :)

you're a true artist! :D

ever did it in public?

Nope, can't say that I've had sex in front of people in public.

I have painted people having sex in front of people though.

You're a very impressive man lol
