Family line church in my hometown

in Photography3 years ago (edited)

Not all rural areas in Vietnam, the family church is the same. However, the difference is not very big, maybe it is the difference in scale and procedures in worshiping activities. And the difference also comes when churches are divided into roots, branches ... usually the closer to the root the more beautiful, bigger and grander it is.

Before introducing you to the church of my family, I would like to introduce a little about the common points for the churches of the families in Vietnam.

The main hall, inside the church, The altar is made from precious wood, ensuring no termites.

The family church is like a miniature museum of each family. This place records the names of the ancestors, the heroic historical feats, the ups and downs throughout the history that the forefathers have created, preserving the treasures, relics and objects & life evidence is preserved by the whole family line.
In terms of architecture, the way they build the church has the characteristics that are both close to the people's life and similar to the temples and shrines.
In terms of function, their church was built to worship ancestors and pay respects.

From the outside, my family's church resembles many other churches in Vietnam. Including 3 space, Total length is about 11m, width is 7m, there is a harem part. Of course, there is also an outdoor courtyard that is equal to or larger than the area of the house and the kitchen. The front part of the church is made of 100% wood, the upper trusses are also wooden. You can imagine that, if not counting the cost of land. The cost of the wooden part of the church usually accounts for 3/5 of the construction cost..

On the 15th and last days of the lunar month, there will be someone in charge of cleaning and offering offerings to the ancestors. In the first lunar month of the year, my hometown held a family festival. This year is the year I take charge of family line affairs, so I'm here to clean, offer Mass and take pictures. Hihihi

This is a photo of the harem, our highest place of ancestor worship.

Viewed from the left corner after I have finished my work, burn incense to invite the ancestors to return.

And the area on the right, quite similar to the area on the left

There are 2 cranes cast in bronze standing on both sides, quite large and quite expensive. When I bought these two beads, I was also present, so I knew about the cost. The photo was taken by me standing inside to avoid backlit.

And the last photo, the main hall, the main area after I finished all my work. Was up lights and incense. Hihi

I hope you have some information about the customs in my hometown. If you come to my hometown, the most populous day is not New Year's Day but the great ancestor worshiping day.

Have a nice and successful weekend, thanks for stopping here.
