For some, it will be the Puerta del Sol, always crowded with people, who by force of habit have learned to wade through the inconveniences of the eternal urban rearrangements, with the same ease with which the exceptional dancer, Gene Kelly, learned to dance under the Paris rain. Others, however, will see in the sculpture of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, the ideal setting to immortalize themselves in selfies, which will later go around the world on the Internet, without even suspecting that in the past, our beloved Bear was spectacularly courted by the most fantastic of animals: the Dragon.

Those who find themselves in possession of an eminently hermeneutic soul will see in the Goddess Cibeles, that Magna Mater, long before the arrival of those Visigoth squatters, whose list of kings choked us in high school and it is not surprising, given that the nobles had a special predilection for putting into practice the delights of intrigue and among them they worshiped the change of jacket, as soccer players do with their expensive wardrobe. Perhaps among them, some stand out, more suspicious and like Pinocchio, the nose one step ahead, think that, just below such a magnificent sculpture, there is supposed to be an underground island, where gossips swear and perjure that those gold reserves, which never returned from Moscow or even, compare this mystery, with that other one that Herodotus, the father of History, told us, stating that under the Great Pyramid, there was also an island, where it was, out of reach of Howard Carter and Indiana Jones, the real sarcophagus of King Cheops.

But honestly, the icon of Madrid that fascinates me the most, despite its relative modernity, is not the Palacio de Oriente, nor the labyrinthine Sabatini Gardens, nor even that Puerta de Alcalá, which is still visited by outsiders singing that of 'miralá, miralá, miralá (look at her, look at her, look at her)' or that Plaza Mayor, with its legends of ghosts and its alley of Hell, currently, shelter of those children of the stars, who are the homeless. On the contrary, if I had to decide, I would opt, with the same confidence with which the singer María Jesús played her accordion, for that Court of Arbitration between angels and demons, which is our Almudena cathedral, and for that Black Virgin and by default, Patron Saint of Madrid, who has been accompanying us, in our miseries and joys, since the dawn of time.
