There are only a few months left before the famous Puerta del Perdón (Door of Forgiveness) of the thousand-year-old monastery of San Martín de Turienzo -at present, better known as Santo Toribio de Liébana, whose mortal remains it houses and among whose acts, it is attributed having brought from Jerusalem to Spain the Holy Ark with the relics that since the 10th century, approximately, have been guarded in the Holy Chamber of the Cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo- reopens for the hundreds of pilgrims and visitors, who at any time of the year Appointment in this authentic heart of the Picos de Europa, which is that endearing region, belonging to Cantabria, which receives the poetic name of Liébana.
But apart from the mortal remains of that saint who was Bishop of Astorga and a Door of Forgiveness, crossing whose threshold grants full blessings to everyone who crosses it during a Jubilee Year, this monastery also houses one of the relics most important and of recognized authenticity, which moves hearts and receives unconditional devotion, such as housing the largest known fragment of the True Cross: the Cross of Martyrdom, where Our Lord was crucified.
Faltan solo unos meses para que la famosa Puerta del Perdón del milenario monasterio de San Martín de Turienzo -en la actualidad, más conocido como de Santo Toribio de Liébana, cuyos restos mortales alberga y entre cuyos actos, se le atribuye el haber traído desde Jerusalén a España el Arca Santa con las reliquias que desde el siglo X, aproximadamente, se custodian en la Cámara Santa de la catedral de San Salvador de Oviedo- vuelva a abrirse para los cientos de peregrinos y visitantes, que en cualquier época del año se dan cita en este auténtico corazón de los Picos de Europa, que es esa entrañable región, perteneciente a Cantabria, que recibe el poético nombre de la Liébana.
Pero aparte de los restos mortales de aquel santo que fuera obispo de Astorga y de una Puerta del Perdón, el franqueo de cuyo umbral otorga cumplidas bendiciones a todo aquel que lo cruce durante un Año Jubilar, este monasterio alberga, además, una de las reliquias más importantes y de reconocida autenticidad, que conmueve corazones y que recibe una devoción incondicional, como es la de albergar el mayor fragmento conocido de la Vera Cruz: la Cruz del Martirio, donde fuera crucificado Nuestro Señor.
