If you are living in a subtropical or tropical climate and you are not growing moringa yet, now is the time to get your hands on some seeds and start growing this miracle tree.

Moringa is super easy to grown and doesn’t need much attention. And what’s even better, it takes less than a year to go from seed to a big tree. After just a few months you will be able to enjoy it’s nutrient-dense, yummy leaves.

Later on in its life, you could use its beans, seeds, and flowers too. In fact, the whole tree is edible and often used as a staple food or medicinal plant in India, Southeast Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.

Moringa Nutritional benefits

Moringa is often referred to as a superfood and for some good reason. This nutrient-dense food houses a wide range of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to boost health and happiness.

Furthermore, moringa contains high levels of fiber and protein, including all 9 essential amino acids our body needs to function properly.

Moringa has shown to boost energy, improve digestion, stabilize blood sugar, reduce inflammation, and boost the immune system.

CLEAN GREEN MORINGA DETOX SMOOTHIE

Ever since we discovered fresh moringa leaves it has been a staple at our home. We use it in smoothies, soups, stews, dressings, etc.

Its flavor can best be compared with spinach. The only thing I maybe don’t like about it is its fibrous stems… so make sure to use the fresh leaves only and not the stem.

INGREDIENTS (serves 2 for breakfast)

  • 2-3 cups fresh moringa leaves
  • 1 small avocado
  • Half a soursop
  • 1 cup mango, fresh from the garden
  • 1 cup papaya
  • Chia seeds
  • Water as needed

FYI: my mango and papaya cubes came from the freezer. However, if you are using freshly peeled fruits add some ice cubes to chill your morning drink.

I freely confess to being a moringa devotee - not only do we grow and use it, we commercially produce it with the indigenous people along the Thai-Burmese border for facemask and body scrub products.

We are smoothie power breakfast people too, and it almost always has a spoon of our own organic moringa powder in it.

Retweeted the NM tweet. 😉

Oh wow! You got so many beautiful projects going on.

That's my main gig. LOL.

I have been trying for 2 years to grow moringa here (Crete, Greece) but our climate is quite different and the small trees are finding it hard to adjust. But I keep trying, they are fascinating plants!

Lovely recipe :)

Good luck. Don't give up.

Ooh, I'm glad to know it's simple to grow. I imagine it tastes better when it's fresh—I found the dried powder was kind of a challenging taste for me. Definitely understand the fabulous nutritional quality, though, and so I think we'll add moringa to our garden. And goji berries too!

Go for it. I love the fresh leaves. So much better than the powder.
