Our gastronomy is varied and tasty, a mixture of flavours, smells and textures. From the simplest to the most complicated.

Venezuelan sweets do not escape from this reality, the traditional sweets that have passed from generation to generation are my favourites, those that unfortunately you can no longer find in the bodegas.

Looking to recreate through the gastronomic memory I have made canned grapefruit or martinica (my favourite) noting every detail to leave captured and that my recipe is not lost in time.

Here is the step by step to prepare this delicious canned food, which is just like the one I used to eat when I was a child.

Ingredients

  • 700 grams of grapefruit (Approximately 4 large grapefruit).

  • 700 grams of sugar.

Procedure

Remove the skin from the grapefruit, cut them into slices and place them in a bowl with water to cover them, leave them to stand for 2 days, changing the water several times a day so that they remove the greenery.

The last change of water they should be washed very well and each slice carefully squeezed, then cut into small squares.

They are taken to a pot and placed over low heat for a few seconds, this in order to remove the water, then add the sugar little by little and stir with a wooden paddle, do not stop stirring to prevent sticking, we will know that it is ready because when stirring we can see the bottom of the pot, remove from heat and serve on a tray where it will be spread and allowed to cool and then cut with a wet knife the size you want.

Below are photographs of the step-by-step process.
