Making my first sponge cake (Step by step) [ENG-ESP] Haciendo mi primer Bizcocho (Paso a paso)

Hola estimados Hivers

Bienvenidos a mi Blog

Hello dear Hivers

Welcome to my Blog

photo_2021-04-20_09-12-10.jpg

Today I want to share with you how was my experience making my first cake, but before I continue I want to make it clear that I am not a Chef or pastry chef, I just like to cook and this time I wanted to surprise my wife, since she is the one who usually makes the desserts here at home. So while she was busy recording a video for her blog here at Hive I was in the kitchen trying to make a cake and not die or burn the kitchen in the attempt.

Why a Bizcocho and not a cake?

4 Huevos
120g Azucar
120g de Harina

4 eggs
120g Sugar
120g Flour

So I read the preparation and based on that recipe, I modified it and achieved my goal. Here I tell you the step by step, but first I will tell you the ingredients I used.

photo_2021-04-20_09-10-41.jpg

1 taza de Harina leudante
1 taza de azúcar
3 huevos
1 cucharada de cacao en polvo
1 cucharadita de esencia de vainilla
2 cucharadas de Aceite comestible
4 cucharadas de leche

1 cup of leavening flour.
1 cup sugar.
3 eggs.
1 tablespoon cocoa powder.
1 teaspoon vanilla essence.
2 tablespoons of edible oil.
4 tablespoons of milk.

Vamos con la preparación:

Let's go with the preparation

The first thing to do is to take the eggs and separate the yolk from the whites. For some reason I forgot to take a picture at this step. Forgive the oversight.

Then in a very clean bowl place the egg whites, a pinch of salt and half of the sugar. Beat with the mixer at maximum speed until the egg whites are stiff (if you don't have a mixer, you can do it the same way... It will just take a little longer to beat it gradually). Reserve this meringue, we will use it soon.

Then in another bold (there is no need to wash the blades of the mixer) place the egg yolks and the rest of the sugar and beat well, at medium speed is perfect. We need to integrate very well the sugar with the yolks, until it has a homogeneous and creamy consistency.

photo_2021-04-20_09-11-15.jpg

The next step is to take the bold of the beaten egg yolks with the sugar, and integrate the rest of the liquid ingredients, that is, the milk, the vanilla and the oil. With the mixer at low or medium speed integrate them well. It is important that in all the steps the mixtures are homogeneous.

After this step we must take and sift the flour with the cocoa powder, we must integrate it in two parts to our mixture. This makes it a little easier to integrate the flour and avoid the formation of lumps. Once the flour is well integrated, we only need to integrate the meringue that we beat at the beginning. But first we must do a couple of things.

As we are almost ready, we must turn on the oven at a temperature of 170 degrees Celcius. As I already know my oven I know that its average temperature is between 180 and 185 degrees Celcius. Remember that all ovens are different. Let the oven preheat.

*Now, we take the mold. Grease and flour it well. The mold I used measures approximately 22cm in diameter by 7cm high. *

Ready, with the oven preheated and the mold floured. It's time to do the final step, but pay close attention. It is one of the most important steps, the sponginess of the cake depends on this step.

We take the meringue and pour it into the mixture, and with a wooden or plastic paddle we integrate it in an enveloping way and very carefully. Do not make very strong movements, since what we are looking for with this step is that the air contained in the meringue is not lost and the mixture is very smooth.

When the meringue and the mixture are well integrated, it is time to pour our preparation into the mold.

And with the oven preheated, we put inside our mixture. It will take approximately 30 minutes. But you must be very careful, remember that not all ovens are the same. I recommend that when closing the oven try not to open it to see how it goes. Opening the oven prematurely can cause the cake to lose its sponginess.

Pero, ¿Cómo saber cuándo está listo?

But how do you know when it is ready?

When you notice that the surface is well browned, open the oven and with a toothpick or a very thin knife, insert it in the center. If it comes out completely dry, it means that you can turn off the oven and remove the cake.

Remember to run a knife gently to avoid scratching the mold around the edges of our cake so that when unmolding it does not present problems. Now, let it cool a little before unmolding it.

Once it is unmolded, let it cool completely and it's ready!!!
