Friends, have you ever wondered why food outside tastes so much better than at home? Remember how the aromas of fresh shish kebab, pizza, and shawarma spread, attracting gaping passersby. And if you manage to get to the festival of street food you are very lucky, the experience is enough for a whole year. So last year I was in Italy, more precisely in Rome, at the street food festival. We visited the festival in the afternoon, we refused the traditional lunch and opted for a fast food lunch. As they say to evaluate the taste of Italian cuisine in person.
The fast food business is very strong in Rome, everywhere there is a concern for tourists. On all sides you can hear the aromas of fresh, high-quality food. In Italy you won't die of hunger, on the contrary, you'll put on a couple of kilos. The traditional meal of Italy of course is pizza, there are different kinds, there is even an exclusive secret that has been passed down from generation to generation.
And so we are in the main square of the festival, from all sides we see colorful posters with exotic names of dishes. Eyes are confused by the abundance of all sorts of sauces and spices. Italians are very talkative and friendly, they always listen to you attentively and offer you a dish at a discount, and even tell you a story.
The first thing that caught our attention was the national pastry about which we had heard before coming to Italy from our friends who had been here earlier. Indeed, they were right just looking at it made our mouth water. The tall Italian salesman politely offered us to choose a tart to any taste, the shop window was bursting with an abundance of different varieties of pastries. After we tasted the pastries we continued our way, tasting all the flavors of Roman cuisine.
After we passed eighty meters we saw the sign "Real Neapolitan deep fried pizza" on one of the pavilions. How to pass by such a treat without tasting it. The crispy crust shimmering in the sun just beckoned us to taste it. This pizza you definitely can not try anywhere else but in Rome. We didn't see so many toppings for pizza anywhere else, cheese, salami, tomatoes.
Running from one vendor to another we suddenly realized there was no way we would be able to try everything. There are so many different dishes that it would take us forever to try them all. What could be more delicious than fried potatoes and here we could not resist and bought one stick of potatoes and washed it all with a delicious and fragrant beer.
Meatloaf bludo is traditionally considered the first course for men. Soft to the taste arrostichini of lamb, roasted for about ten minutes mainly on coals. The main task of arrostichini is to feed a large number of people with a small amount of meat in one dish. The lovers of porchetta have not been forgotten: it is a meat loaf seasoned with different spices, very tasty, I advise everybody to try it. Of course it's hard to call it a diet dish, but you can try it once. There are also lots of seafood delicacies from simple fried fish to exotic grilled octopus, which has a perfect balance of different flavors put together. Of the dairy dishes, we liked the caciocavallo cheese. Caciocavallo homeland is Sicily, and today it is made all over Italy.
Well, this is the end of my story about the street food festival in Rome. If you are ever lucky enough to be in Italy and you will be offered to visit a street food festival, don't refuse. It will be a lot of positive impressions and moods.
