The magic of Christmas celebrations is the opportunity for reunions, whether with family, friends, flavors or memories.
I would like to tell you that I have lived some fascinating days. Appreciating every moment. This time I have spent them far from my mother's house, although we have been close thanks to telecommunications, but still enjoying this new experience of spending these dates with my "chosen family".
Lo mágico de las celebraciones decembrinas es esa oportunidad para los reencuentros, ya sea con familiares, amigos, sabores o recuerdos.
Les comento que he vivido unos días fascinantes. Apreciando cada momento. En esta oportunidad los he pasado lejos de la casa materna, aunque hemos estado cerca gracias a las telecomunicaciones, pero igualmente disfrutando de esta nueva experiencia de pasar estas fechas con mi “familia elegida”.
There are so many exciting things to tell you... Following the new trends of saving space and economy at home we placed a Christmas tree of lights on the wall that we accompanied with a small and cute nativity. It has been quite a sensation!
Son tantas cosas emocionantes qué contarles… Siguiendo las nuevas tendencias de ahorro de espacio y economía en casa colocamos un árbol navideño de luces en la pared que acompañamos con un pequeño y simpático nacimiento. ¡Ha sido toda una sensación!
Of course, these dates are a delight to the palate, and that is what we have dedicated ourselves to. We prepared a ponche crema, a typical Venezuelan drink made with milk, rum and spices, which was very, very tasty.

We also made one of the typical Venezuelan Christmas desserts such as dulce de lechosa which we shared with friends, because the most beautiful thing about these dates is sharing.
También hicimos uno de los postres típicos de las navidades venezolanas como lo es el dulce de lechosa el cual compartimos con las amistades, porque lo más bonito de estas fechas es el compartir.

Another dessert always present on the Christmas table is the black cake, on this occasion and thank God, we were also able to taste it. We added a rum-based macerate, candied fruits, nuts and raisins that gave it a super stellar taste.
Otro postre siempre presente en la mesa navideña es la torta negra, en esta ocasión y a Dios gracias, también pudimos degustarla. Le colocamos un macerado a base de ron, frutas confitadas, frutos secos y pasas que le dio un gusto súper estelar.

A real culinary adventure was the preparation of the fruit salad in syrup, made with the ripe fruit of pineapple, melon and papaya, following my mom's recipe, and that it turned out just as she prepares it was a major achievement for me. Also, to my surprise when I gave it to a neighbor to taste, these were her words when she tasted it: "Wow, I just took a trip back in time, when I used to share with my dad the can of fruit cocktail he used to buy. This dessert tastes just like it.
Una verdadera aventura culinaria fue la preparación de la ensalada de frutas en almíbar, hecha con la fruta madura de: piña, melón y lechosa (papaya), siguiendo la receta de mi mamá, y que me quedara tal y como ella la prepara fue para mí un logro mayúsculo. Además, para mí sorpresa cuando se la di a probar a una vecina, estas fueron sus palabras al saborearlo: "Wow, acabo de hacer un viaje en el tiempo, cuando compartía con mi papá la lata de cóctel de frutas que él compraba. Este dulce sabe igualito".

Moving on to the main courses. I celebrate that for December 31 I prepared my first cochino al horno. I did the whole process, from marinating it with Pepsi, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, bay leaf, chili and stuffed olives, to chopping and serving it. I will only say that the diners rated me with 100 points out of 100.
Pasando a los platos fuertes. Celebro que para el 31 de diciembre preparé mi primer cochino al horno. Realicé todo el proceso, desde el marinado con Pepsi, ajo, cebolla, sal, pimienta, laurel, aji y aceitunas rellenas, hasta picarlo y servirlo. Solo diré que los comensales me calificaron con 100 puntos de 100.

I also made chicken salad for the first time, and twice, because we served it for dinner on December 24 and for New Year's Eve dinner. This preparation has chicken strips and chunks, green peas, potatoes, carrots and diced apples, dressed with mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper to taste.
También por vez primera hice la ensalada de gallina, y en dos ocasiones, porque la servimos para la cena del 24 de diciembre y para la cena de Nochevieja. Ésta preparación lleva tiras y trozos de pollo, guisantes verdes, papás, zanahorias y manzanas en cubos, aderezada con mayonesa, mostaza, sal y pimienta al gusto.

The "king" of the Venezuelan Christmas table, the pan de jamón, was also present in our home. It is a true delight to feel its aroma throughout the house and a pleasure to enjoy the mixture of flavors of this unique sweet bread, stuffed with smoked ham, bacon, raisins and olives.
El “rey” de la mesa navideña venezolana, como lo es el pan de jamón, también estuvo presente en nuestro hogar. Es una verdadera delicia sentir su aroma por toda la casa y un gustazo al paladar disfrutar la mezcla de sabores de este pan dulzón y único, relleno de jamón ahumado, tocineta (bacon), pasas y aceitunas.

For me these dates are moments that lodge in a very special place in our hearts and give us the impulse to continue with more strength in this art of living during the days to come. After this break, full of good vibes, we have recharged and we are ready to move forward with will and energy.
Para mí estas fechas son momentos que se alojan en un lugar muy especial de nuestros corazones y nos dan el impulso para continuar con más fuerzas en este arte de vivir durante los días porvenir. Tras este paréntesis, lleno de buena vibra, nos hemos recargado y estamos prestos para seguir adelante con voluntad y energía.
