POPCORN GAR?

This worked really well!

On our homestead, we have a good relationship with the lake. It's only about ten or fifteen minutes away, which makes it easy. Some time ago, we changed up our diet to pull it in line with what we read in the Bible, so now we only eat creatures from the water if they have fins and scales. This rules out popular dishes including catfish, lobster, shrimp, and others, and it puts things like carp and gar on the edible list. In some of these photos, I'm holding two Common Carp and two Longnose Gar. It was amazing how delicious these fish could be, especially since many people call them "trash fish."

If gar is harvested fresh, it remains rather firm and chewy. This lends itself to many uses in the kitchen, and we've enjoyed it several ways. We've made gar bites (which are comparable to chicken tenders), gar po'boys, gar Alfredo pasta, and gar boil with a spicy flavoring mix. This time, I cut the gar bites small and tried them with a cocktail sauce, hence creating "popcorn gar." Not only did it work, it was very tasty. I really appreciate our adventures and experiments in the kitchen. Enjoy the photos!

If trash fish can taste good, they aren't trash fish!

Whoever said this fish is trash fish when it's as tasty as you say 😋

Wait a minute! What's with the Bible thing about only eating fishes with fins and scales?

Yeah, man may tell me these fish are "trash," but I believe God over man.
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” PSALM 118:8

As for the part about which seafood God said is for human consumption, that comes from Leviticus. I'll share the verses below.

"These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you."
LEVITICUS 11:9-12

How amazing 😍

It's true that it's better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

Thank you for sharing the scripture.

It's beautiful to see you allowing the word of God to direct your path.

You are making the scripture, Thy Word Is a Lamp Unto My Feet and Light Unto My Path a reality in your life.

I admire that! Thank you for sharing.

Amen to that. Thank you as well! It was encouraging to read your response.

My pleasure, sir.

Good Morning to you
