Patsitivity's Palate: Pukot Kitchen and why it's my favorite

Hive_Patsitivity's Palate #3 (4).png

It's been a rollercoaster week for me at work and I'm kinda having difficulty making time for my content creation here in Hive. I just got off from a 12-hr meeting (9-9). Sounds crazy! Hell, yeah! Well, now that I got a few minutes to spare, I'm choosing to piece this story together rather than binge-watching a K-series (again). 🤣

I'm ecstatic to share this restaurant with everyone because definitely one of my favorites. I don't recall having a preferred restaurant back then but when I first had dinner here with a bunch of royals, I told myself "I'll keep coming back for sure" and I did.

What is meant by Pukot?

This restaurant's name may sound peculiar to you because it came from our mother tongue here in Cebu and some parts of Visayas and Mindanao called Bisaya. Pukot's direct English translation is fishnet. This is perhaps the reason why the interior of the small restaurant is centered on the embossed word Pukot with a colorful representation of a fishnet.

Hidden but not a secret

What I love about Pukot is, one , it's location. It ain't too far like other restaurants located on the uphill side of Cebu City and it's not too crowded as it doesn't sit right at the heart of mid and downtown Cebu City.

It's located at 10 Adelfa Street El Dorado Subdivision, Banilad, Cebu City. Approximately 100 meters from the main road. The restaurant is within the vicinity of Flying Fish Boutique Hostel.

There's a mini pool which the guests of the hostel could use. Although it may be weird for guests to use the pool when people eating at the restuarant could see them, we could look at it the other way around. At times, when the restaurant receives a lot of reservations they extend their seating capacity by adding more tables and chairs around the pool area. I've seen this first hand when a visited on a December. And that adds value to the dining experience. It's refreshing!

When you go in, don't expect a spacious restaurant for you aren't getting that here. Based on my estimation, this small cafe could comfortably sit 20-25 pax only or a stretch of 30 pax at a time without social distancing.

The warm lights all over the place made the space cozy but nothing really fancy inside the restaurant except for the center of attration I mentioned earlier. Although I noted a few painting hanged on the walls, the entire place remains simple and straightforward.

Food for the soul

My first visiti in Pukot during a quick catch-up dinner with my orgmates, Union of Progressive Students (UPS), back in College. Titas and Titos meeting the new generation!😁

As I've been here a couple of times, I'm only sharing one of my favorite visit and perhaps the visit where I got to take decent photos. The place is relatively dark. 😂

It was my close friend's birthday dinner. We're used to throwing cute and sweet birthday surprises since the pandemic broke out because there's no way we could hang out and celebrate our birthdays together. So we'd send over cakes, pizza or whatever the birthday celebrant wishes to receive during his/her birthday. But of course, everything will be discreetly arranged so it would still appear like a real surprise. To cut the chase, when the pandemic became a normal thing, Jelo, the birthday celebrant, told us that he won't receive anything from us instead he want us to have dinner together. We had a long list of restaurants to choose from. But in the end, I convinced everyone to come here.

I don't remember what I ordered during my first visit; apparently I had to figure out what I liked when I first ate here. I have a tendency to order the same especially if I love the dish!

PRO TIP: The safest thing to do when you don't know what to order is ask them what their bestseller is/are?

There were 6 of us, Kathy, John, Philip, Jelo, yours truly and my boyfriend. My boyfriend's school is nearby so we asked him to join. He's been an honorary member of our Bogo Family when he started dating me haha 😂

Okay, so here's what we tried and I hope you don't drool just by looking at these photos:

Kathy ordered this pasta with shrimp and pork chop. I forgot to remember the name, but looks delish, right?

We ordered there famous Naan Pizza good for sharing. We were told to chose two flavors. We got Diavola with spicy salami and Quattro Formaggi with 4 types of cheese - mozzarella, gorgonzola, cheddar and parmesan. The pizza tasted great but it was too tough we had difficulty slicing it.

Four of us ordered one of my recommended dishes when you go here called Herbed Pork Chop at Pph 575.00 ( or a little over $10) per order. You'll get two slices of huge pork chops, a serving of rice and corn as a side dish and the best part is the pesto sauce. My love for pesto started when I ate this dish.

I think it was GB who ordered Salisbury Steak at Php 460.00 (almost $9). It's beef with rice, sunny side up and some side veggies to complete the package. It did look inviting and the taste was on point but the serving of the beef could be improved. But knowing it's beef which is normally costlier than pork, the price is justifiable. They can increase the serving and increase the price to cater to hungry humans like me haha If you are hungry, go get the Herbed Pork instead! 😂

Our little night-out didn't end there. We transfered somewhere else to get coffee and drinks. We'd love to extend but the establishment was closing soon so we took this family photo and bade farewell.

Always a good time with my constants! 😍

This restaurant is my favorite mainly because of the memories I have of the place and the food. Now I'm excited to go back again! 😅

Do I recommend Pukot Kitchen? It's a 100% yes, they still have a long list of dishes in their menu that you should also check out. And as I've observed, there's always something new. Follow their Facebook posts as they offer new food every now and then. I'm not done eating all of them either. Here's the link to their menu.

That's it for Patsitivity's Palate feauting Pukot Kitchen in Cebu City. See you in my next post. 😁
