Hello guys, i guess the title of my blog is kind of funny or odd.
So what didnt i know about? "MELON "not water melon like you will guess but the one we here in Nigeria uses to prepare different types of soup.
###It is popularly called "EGUSI"by Nigerians.
We use it to prepare so many types of of soups such as, Egusi with vegetables, Egusi pepper soup, just to name a few, we can use to eat Rice, as stew, semo,Eba,Amala,as swallow to eat the soup.
I have been eating this soup since i was a kid but i never knew how it was planted, what the plant look like or how the seed was gotten.
So i discovered. Just a few months ago when my neighbor planted it, at first i thought it was water Melon but she told me it was not, to my surprise she said it's actually melon assin EGUSI. WOW, she taught me the process of maturity and all i needed to know about it.luckly for me i asked from an acquaintance who planted same if i could harvest hers when it was matured because the planting season was gone,
So i couldn't plant mine if i wanted to,she agreed .
So i harvested some of it.
Here are the process:
I first harvested the melon

Then i cut it in the middle with a knife, i Leave it for two days for it to be soft, i then remove the seed from it.
I then wash the seeds with sand and later rinse with water.
then i put it out to dry in the sun,it looks like this when it is dried
Thereafter i peeled it and blend it with my grinder.
This is how it looks like
The picture on the left is the peeled melon seed while the right one is the grinded seed.
I then use it to prepare this soup With this other ingredients
Meat, palm oil, vegetable, grinded pepper and tomato, onions. i added maggi and salt to taste.

When i was done with the soup i made semovita to eat the soup . This is it
Thanks for viewing my blog i hhope we all can learn Something new everyday, be ggood to yourself, love other and stay safe.
