Hey Hive!
Now that it's been quite a while since Singapore has has been out of lockdown, or what our government has termed "circuit breaker", restaurants have been operating pretty much as usual aside from implementing safe distancing measures. We've also been eating out more and trying new places!
And one of these new places is this new food court/hawker center called Kampung Admiralty!
If you're unfamiliar, Kampung Admiralty is a first-of-its-kind development in Singapore, and is a 11-story "modern kampung" (Malay word for village) specifically designed around elderly. It has 100 flats for the elderly, a two-storey medical centre providing specialist outpatient care, an Active Ageing Hub co-located with a childcare centre, dining and retail outlets, as well as a 900-seat hawker centre. The hawker centre is actually pretty huge and there are so many stores and seats around! It does still get quite crowded in the evenings though.
So we just decided to buy our dinner to-go since it gets really warm there with so many people and so many stalls.
We frequent Kampung Admiralty quite a bit since there's a 24 hour FairPrice supermarket there, but the hawker centre also has quite a number of stores with yummy food! I was in the mood for noodles and one of our go-to stores for noodles is this Fishball Noodle stall called Ming Fa!
I read that Ming Fa is a chain of fishball noodle stalls that originated from a small pushcart in Chinatown in 1946! The business was passed down from father to son and now more than 70 years on, the third generation has overseen an expansion of the family business to thirteen outlets islandwide, as well as franchises in Jakarta (Source: Ming Fa)!
I forgot to take a photo of the menu but they have a few different sets available like minced meat noodle and fishball noodle. My default order is dry fishball noodles with chili, and with noodles called meepok (flat yellow noodles) that look like this!
Sean's favourite order is minced meat noodles with mushroom and he chose meekia (thin yellow noodles)!
The noodles were soo yummy! Mixed with the special dried chili oil, just slightly oily and savoury to perfection! It mixes in so well with the fishballs and fishcakes and were absolutely delicious!
This was Sean's noodles! I actually like meekia quite a bit as well, but with wanton noodles instead. Somehow meepok tastes better with fishballs to me.
It was so delicious I think I finished my bowl in under 10 minutes! I was also really hungry at the time so I guess that was also why. But Ming Fa definitely doesn't disappoint when it comes to dry noodles! I've never tried their soup before but I imagine it's pretty good too!
There are currently 13 Ming Fa outlets across Singapore so if you're ever in the area and are craving some noodles definitely check it out!
