Food Sharing #223 - Gram Pancakes @ Chatswood, Australia

Hi Everyone,

The first Gram Pancake cafe all the way from Japan is finally here in Australia and there is only 1 store at the moment located at Chatswood. There will be another one opening soon in the city but at the moment, this is the only store available selling these yummy dessert. Gram originated from Japan with stores opened in various Asian cities, pancakes from Gram is the thing to look out for. The pancakes are known to be fluffy, not too sweet and the best part, there is more than just pancakes you can try at this yummy cafe. Every time we go past the store, there is ALWAYS a line but we got there early one evening and finally we got to go in and try it out!

Let’s check out the menu. Lots to choose from but we were there for one thing - the premium pancakes. We also ordered a matcha pancakes which looks pretty impressive in the photos and the kids were already drawn by the colourful pictures. We decided to not order any drinks and just have water in case there is too much sugar and the kids will already be on a sugar high after the pancakes. The smell of fresh pancakes filled the cafe, we can’t wait to get our yummy pancakes.

Here comes the food! Let’s talk about the famous pancakes. It came out just like in the picture with 3 tiers with the syrup on the side and the cream next to it. We gave 1 out of the 3 for the kids to share and we had the rest. The pancakes were super fluffy it feels like you are eatings on clouds. It wasn’t super sweet, the sweetness I think comes mainly from the cream and syrup. Personally I love the pancakes with the cream only with minimal syrup which is why I’m glad they separated it. It was very generous size so be sure to leave some stomach space after dinner for these yummy pancakes.

Then the matcha pancakes arrived not long after. The pancakes were just normal pancakes I make at home, not the fluffy textured ones. In between the pancakes are a layer of green tea cream matched with some Japanese dessert balls, red beans, strawberries, cream and cinnamon covered nuts. I was a little disappointed with the pancakes, even my kids pointed out I make the same pancakes at home. The only thing that made the pancakes special was the green tea cream and even that I think it was hard to compare it with the fluffy pancakes because it was so good. Taste wise it wasn’t bad though i do prefer less cream as there was quite a bit of it.

I think next time I would order two fluffy pancakes as the whole family loved that one. The staff there was friendly, seating was limited so be sure to come early or expect to line up. If you cannot wait to get a seat, you can always get takeaway with the menu shown below. They also offer home delivery as well which I have yet to try but maybe will have to if I am craving for more pancakes. The location is superb right on top of the station near the interchange food centre. I’m so glad Sydney finally has a store opened up and another one plan to open soon at the The Galeries Shopping Centre!
