Koh Kred

We went to Koh Kred, a river island in Pak Kred, well-known for the traditional Thai dessert you may not find it easily elsewhere. They got a range from Khao Chae to small little pieces we're going to be sharing to day.

This is probably the first time ever on Hive I ever share this kind of food/dessert because even I myself don't have many chances to come across these kinds of dessert, this authentic, this beautiful and this exotic. Some of the things I don't even know the name and it's my first time to try it.

Ja Mong Gud (จ่ามงกุฏ)

This one the name pretty much means crown which makes sense from the shape and how it's decorated. There's also a little piece of real gold flake on top. The yellow part is egg yolk, flour, sugar and the white stuff around it seems like it's straight sugar or big part sugar. Pretty interesting shape if you ask me. I personally like the stuff inside but not the white thing around it.

Alure doke mai (อลัวดอกไม้)

This one is so.. so.. soooo pretty and it smells amazing as they use a perfume candle to give it some scent or some also use jasmine perfume. The dessert itself made of sugar (duh!), flour, and coconut milk giving that nice coconutty creamy taste. I love this one a lot. It's not just pretty but tastes good and such smooth texture.

Sanay Jun (สเน่ห์จันท์)

This one meaning real pretty, sanay means charm, jun means the moon so this dessert 'Sanay Jun' pretty much means A charming moon.. Not sure how that sounds in English but in Thai, this could be one of the prettiest person name if someone ever name their kid that. The ingredients are pretty much like the middle part of the Ja Mong Gud. Just that there's not white stuff surrounding which I like it better, to be honest.

There are a few more types of this old-school Thai dessert you wouldn't find it elsewhere so often but you can find it here. There are also a lot more shops selling this on the Koh Kred island but I find this particular shop a really good one as a few locals recommend it as well. The name of the shop is Baan Ja Mong Gud located on Koh Kred Island!
