Antes de comenzar con el tema central de esta publicación, les tengo que contar un poco acerca de mi pasado oscuro. Naaah, mentira…no se trata de ningún pasado oscuro ni nada por el estilo, pero lo que sí quiero contarles brevemente sobre aquella época en la que yo, @maryed, me dediqué al baile. De niña formé parte de una academia de baile, practiqué Danza Árabe y Flamenco por casi seis años y durante este tiempo llegué a presentarme en lugares importantes de mi ciudad. Fue una época bastante bonita y de la cual guardo recuerdos hermosos pero lo triste es que me terminé alejando de este mundo por causas ajenas a mi voluntad.
Before I start with the main topic of this post, I have to tell you a little bit about my dark past. Naaah, lie...it's not about any dark past or anything like that, but what I do want to tell you briefly about that time when I, @maryed, dedicated myself to dance. As a child I was part of a dance academy, I practiced Arabic and Flamenco Dance for almost six years and during this time I got to perform in important places in my city. It was a very nice time and of which I keep beautiful memories but the sad thing is that I ended up leaving this world for reasons beyond my control.

A pesar de que hoy en día pareciera que tengo dos pies izquierdos y que he perdido esa “soltura” corporal y la capacidad para memorizar coreografías, el baile sigue llamando mi atención y es por eso que disfruto tanto ver una coreografía bien trabajada. Cuando me enteré de esta iniciativa creada por mi amiguita bella @dimeshana, me emocioné bastante porque, sin duda alguna, hay un montón de coreografías que he visto en películas, vídeos musicales e incluso en vivo y directo que se han quedado grabadas en mi mente por lo magnificas que me han parecido e incluso he llegado a fantasear con la idea de querer imitarlas. Pero bueno, no haré más larga esta introducción y mejor les cuento cuáles han sido esas coreografías que he amado con locura y pasión.
Even though nowadays I seem to have two left feet and have lost that body "fluency" and the ability to memorize choreographies, dancing still catches my attention and that's why I enjoy watching a well-worked choreography so much. When I heard about this initiative created by my beautiful friend @dimeshana, I got pretty excited because, without a doubt, there are a lot of choreographies that I have seen in movies, music videos and even live and direct that have stuck in my mind because of how magnificent they have seemed to me and I have even come to fantasize with the idea of wanting to imitate them. But well, I will not make this introduction longer and better tell you what have been those choreographies that I have loved with madness and passion.
Yo soy parte de esa generación que creció viendo las películas de High School Musical y aún y con la edad que tengo no me da vergüenza aceptar que todavía disfruto viendo estas películas y cantando cada una de las canciones a todo pulmón. No hay coreografía de las tres películas que no me guste pues en realidad todas me encantan, pero le tengo un especial cariño a We’re all in this together. Mi historia con esta película es bastante chistosa, resulta que una de mis mejores amigas fue mi vecina durante varios años (y digo fue porque ella emigró del país hace ya algún tiempo), lo cierto es que todas las tardes cuando nos juntábamos en su casa o en la mía siempre terminábamos viendo la primera película de esta trilogía y un día simplemente se nos ocurrió imitar esta coreografía que les menciono. Escogimos esa en particular porque era la que más nos gustaba a las dos y creo que esto se debía a que ambas le teníamos un amor en particular a las coreografías en donde todo el elenco bailaba, además de que los pasos de baile de esta coreografía en particular simplemente nos encantaban.
I am part of that generation that grew up watching the High School Musical movies and even as old as I am I am not ashamed to say that I still enjoy watching these movies and singing every single song at the top of my lungs. There is no choreography from the three movies that I don't like because I really love them all, but I am especially fond of We're all in this together. My story with this movie is quite funny, it turns out that one of my best friends was my neighbor for several years (and I say was because she emigrated from the country some time ago), the truth is that every afternoon when we got together at her house or mine we always ended up watching the first movie of this trilogy and one day we just happened to imitate this choreography that I mention. We chose that one in particular because it was the one we both liked the most and I think this was because we both had a particular love for the choreographies where the whole cast danced, plus the dance steps of this particular choreography we just loved.
Buscamos muchos vídeos por Internet donde explicaban detalladamente cada paso e incluso todas las tardes practicábamos un poco hasta que finalmente logramos realizar la coreografía. We searched a lot of videos on the Internet where they explained each step in detail and even every afternoon we practiced a little bit until we finally managed to perform the choreography. It was really funny because we always called one of my relatives or their relatives to give us a thumbs up and tell us how our dance steps were. Those were very nice moments and that is why I like this choreography so much, because it makes me remember very nice moments.
¿Cómo olvidar los divertidos pasos de baile de Redfoo y Skyblu? En el año 2010 causó revuelo en la Internet y fuera de ella, era lo que estaba de moda en aquel momento y recuerdo claramente que fue una de las canciones más escuchadas y sin mencionar que todo el mundo quería imitar a la perfección los pasos de baile que se veían en este vídeo y evidentemente mis compañeros de estudio y yo no fuimos la excepción.
En el colegio en el cual yo estudiaba se tenía la costumbre de celebrar el aniversario de la institución durante una semana completa, semana para la cual se tenían preparadas muchas actividades para y por los estudiantes, desde obras de teatro, competencias de baile, entre otras cosas. Recuerdo que una de las chicas que estudiaba conmigo tenía un talento asombroso para el baile, así que era ella la que siempre estaba a cargo de las coreografías aunque en realidad de mi año el grupo de baile era bastante pequeño pues no todos tenían ese talento para bailar. Lo cierto es que ese año esta chica en cuestión quería que más chicos y chicas de nuestro año se involucraran en la coreografía porque quería destacar con un grupo grande que bailara Party Rock Anthem.
How can we forget the fun dance moves of Redfoo and Skyblu? In 2010 it caused a stir on the Internet and outside it, it was what was fashionable at that time and I clearly remember that it was one of the most listened songs and not to mention that everyone wanted to imitate to perfection the dance steps that were seen in this video and obviously my fellow students and I were no exception.
In the school where I studied it was customary to celebrate the anniversary of the institution for a whole week, a week for which many activities were prepared for and by the students, from plays, dance competitions, among other things. I remember that one of the girls who studied with me had an amazing talent for dancing, so she was the one who was always in charge of the choreography, although in my year the dance group was actually quite small because not everyone had that talent for dancing. The truth is that that year this girl in question wanted more boys and girls from our year to get involved in the choreography because she wanted to stand out with a big group dancing Party Rock Anthem.
Al final, ella nos terminó convenciendo a varios para participar. Fueron unos cuantos meses de práctica y con las indicaciones y paciencia de mi amiga logramos sacar la coreografía, porque créanme que aunque la coreografía se ve divertida y fácil de aprender, los que no sabíamos bailar muy bien sufrimos durante los ensayos y fue un poco difícil vernos "cool" y no exagerados o ridículos al imitar estos pasos de "Shuffle". Fue bastante chistoso y de verdad que nos divertimos muchísimo, todo estuvo bien planificado, incluyendo el vestuario porque incluso uno de los chicos se disfrazó como el chico cabeza de caja que aparece en el vídeoclip. Al final nuestro esfuerzo valió la pena, porque terminamos ganando la competencia de baile de ese año.
In the end, she ended up convincing several of us to participate. It took a few months of practice and with my friend's indications and patience we managed to get the choreography, because believe me, although the choreography looks fun and easy to learn, those of us who didn't know how to dance very well suffered during the rehearsals and it was a little difficult to look "cool" and not exaggerated when imitating these "Shuffle" steps. It was quite funny and we really had a lot of fun, everything was well planned, including the costumes because one of the guys even dressed up as the box head guy that appears in the video clip. In the end our effort was worth it, because we ended up winning the dance competition that year.
Claro está que no podía dejar de lado una de las coreografías más brutales de toda la franquicia de películas de baile Step Up. Cada una de las coreografías de esta saga cinematográfica son brutales, pero la que más ha hecho que mi cerebro explote es la coreografía final del grupo LMNTRIX en la competencia de baile The Vortex en la quinta entrega de la franquicia Step Up: All In.
No importa cuantas veces haya visto esta coreografía, pues siempre logra impresionarme. Cada paso, cada secuencia me parecen sumamente brutales y me dejan sin palabras.
Of course I couldn't leave out one of the most brutal choreographies of the entire dance movie franchise Step Up. Each of the choreographies in this film saga are brutal, but the one that has made my brain explode the most is the final choreography of the LMNTRIX group in The Vortex dance competition in the fifth installment of the franchise Step Up: All In.
No matter how many times I've seen this choreography, it always manages to impress me. Every step, every sequence looks so brutal and leaves me speechless.
