Hallo liebe Community,
heute ein paar schöne Bilder aus dem Rheingau. Letzte Woche war ich auf Schloss Vollrads zu einer Weinprobe mit Schlossführung und anschließendem Abendessen eingeladen. Ein herrlicher Abend.
Schloss Vollrads liegt in Oestrich-Winkel, um genau zu sein darüber auf einem Hügel in den Weinbergen. Dies ist auch der Grund, warum es in all den Jahrhunderten nie geplündert wurde. Es liegt zwar auf dem Hügel aber in einer kleinen Senke, so dass es unten vom Rhein nicht zu sehen ist. Und was man nicht sieht, kann man nicht ausrauben.
Das Schloss beherbergt das drittälteste Weingut Deutschlands. Es wird nur Riesling angebaut und dies in einer Spitzenqualität. Zu dem Weingut gehört auch das "graue Haus" unten im Ort, das älteste noch erhaltene Steinhaus Deutschlands. Mittlerweile gehört das Weingut der Sparkasse, da der letzte Sprössling der Familie, die Jahrhunderte das Schloss besessen hatten, sich kurz vor der Insolvenz in den 1990er Jahren das Leben nahm. Die Sparkasse freut sich nun, da das Weingut mittlerweile wieder gute Gewinne abwirft.
Angefangen hatte alles mit dem großen Wohnturm, den Ihr auf den Bildern seht. Als im 17ten Jahrhundert der Inhaber dann 26 Kinder sein Eigen nennen durfte, wurde in jahrzehntelanger Arbeit der rest des Schlosses um den Turm herum errichtet. Platzprobleme gab es von da an nicht mehr.
Unser Abendessen nahmen wir im Garten zu uns, eine ganz tolle Location wie auf dem letzten Bild zu sehen. Es war ein gelungener Abend mit tollem Wein und schmackhaftem Essen. Gerade auch für Hochzeiten sehr zu empfehlen. Schaut mal vorbei, wenn Ihr in der Gegend seid.

today a few nice pictures from the Rheingau. Last week I was invited to Schloss Vollrads for a wine tasting with a tour of the castle followed by dinner. A wonderful evening.
Schloss Vollrads is located in Oestrich-Winkel, to be exact above it on a hill in the vineyards. This is also the reason why it has never been plundered in all these centuries. It is on the hill but in a small depression, so that it cannot be seen from the Rhine below. And what you can't see, you can't rob.
The castle houses the third oldest winery in Germany. Only Riesling is grown and this in a top quality. The winery also includes the "gray house" down in the village, the oldest surviving stone house in Germany. Meanwhile, the winery belongs to the Sparkasse, as the last scion of the family who had owned the castle for centuries took his own life shortly before it went bankrupt in the 1990s. The Sparkasse is now pleased because the winery is now making good profits again.
It all started with the large residential tower that you can see in the pictures. When in the 17th century the owner was allowed to call 26 children his own, the rest of the castle was built around the tower in decades of work. From then on there were no more space problems.
We had our dinner in the garden, a great location as you can see in the last picture. It was a successful evening with great wine and tasty food. Highly recommended especially for weddings. Check it out when you are in the area.
