If you live in a country outside India, you might be wondering what the title means because it would be strange to see an advertisement for a groom or bride in the newspapers. After the widespread circulation of newspapers all over the country, it became a trend to place advertisements in the paper searching for prospective groom and bride, which is what the title of the movie indicates.
This movie is in Malayalam language and is directed by Anoop Sathyan, the son of the famous director Sathyan Anthikad. It is a romantic comedy and also hints at emotional family bondings.
The actors who performed really well in the movie are Dulquar Salman, Kalyani, Shobhana, Suresh Gopi, Major Ravi, Lalita, Lalu Alex, Urvashi, and Johny Antony besides other supporting actors.
The plot
The story revolves around a mother and daughter who live in an apartment in the city of Chennai. The mother is divorced and the daughter who is an IT professional does not believe in love marriages although she does help her friends get married in court. She advertises for a groom and being beautiful, she also gets attention, rather unwanted from the local Romeos, too.
Meanwhile, a retired army man comes to live in their complex and so do an elderly woman and the two boys she is taking care of. Humor and situational comedy are present throughout the movie and she does get a proposal through a matrimonial site and the prospective groom and his mother like her very much but the boy is put off when he learns that she would like her mother to remarry the army man. She meanwhile befriends the young man in the apartment complex and the ending scene shows them going on a date together.
This is a feel-good movie that you can watch along with your family and friends without any hesitation. There might be subtitles and dubbed versions, I presume. I shall try to find a link.
What made this movie very popular was the fact that the screenplay was very well written and the actors were natural and not at all make-believe or artificial. The sets too were not out of the ordinary or set in exotic locations like you would see in other Indian movies, especially Bollywood.
It is shot in Chennai mostly and all the locations were exactly as it is. There was no major change. Even the clothes the actors wore seemed just like what you or I would wear on a normal day.
It is the first movie of the lead female actor Kalyani Priyadarshan whose parents have contributed to the movie industry. Kalyani is like a breath of fresh air and is one of the main reasons why the movie is really popular and loved.
