Hello everyone. Today I felt in the mood to participate in the daily Color Challenge by @kalemandra. In perusing my Gaugan AI Digital drawings for the green and/or turquoise color challenge, I noticed one I'd drawn a few months ago. I wanted to use this one because it depicts a small town built on the end of a shore. The colors I need for today's challenge is included in it. What's also interesting is that in the background is a wall of water.

While examining the digital art again, a short story took shape I'd like to share with you along with the photograph.

COLOR CHALLENGE

This challenge is an interesting one in that you must observe the world around you in terms of color. Take photographs, then determine what colors are contained in the subject matter of the photo. Well, in this challenge, you'll have the chance to showcase those photographs each day of the week in which the challenge owner has assigned a different color. Sounds like fun.

I hope you like my Green - Turquoise Thursday photo and short story.

Early dawn. I lay in bed staring out the window when suddenly a twinge in my gut reminds me I didn't eat last night. A microwaveable breakfast sandwich and instant coffee would have to suffice because that dreaded timekeeper clock in the employee lounge at work was waiting for me.

I can see my first shift supervisor standing nearby with a disapproving look and yellow check-in pad waiting to add my name to its list of third-chance regulars who find it hard to obey the new hourly rules.

Just as my feet landed on the floor of our stilted apartment, three rings of the bell tower pierced my ears. Without a second thought, I add two pair of socks to my feet, slip on my boots, and grab our family bug-out-bag from the closet.

Peeking out the window, I see the waters began to rise above the indicator mark. Being close to the shore enables me to be one of the monitors. Nothing official. Just my way of contributing since I was about 15 years old.

That year the flood waters came. I wasn't prepared. In fact, no one was in my village.

On second look, I confirm the swell is just beginning to approach midway marker at the edge of the coast. Time is of the essence now. Hastily, I wake the rest of my family. Within ten minutes, We're outside our home headed to our boat and towards the opposite side of the walkway near the bridge.

Behind us, the flood waters came.

Even if we manage to get out of the house before it's swept away, there's no guarantee we'll make it to the bridge and to a higher elevation. We'll probably lose our boat as well. All we can do is secure it to the pier. It may help someone else get to safety.

My heart is beating fast as we manage to scurry towards the bridge. I turn to witness the destruction. I can see the debris covering our manicured street and sidewalk. Our belongings are floating away. I thanked God my family is safe.

The bridge will take us to safety as we arrive on the other side at the hilly part. We continue to watch and wait as the rescue transport arrive.

For a moment, my thoughts turn to my supervisor and his trusted companions, the timekeeper clock and yellow note pad as he asks, "Excuse today, Harold."

"Force Majeure, combined with delayed storm drainage planning by our local officials," would have been my answer.

But today, it didn't matter. I managed to be on time to save myself and my family, in addition to helping an elderly neighbor on my street from possibly being swept away when the flood waters came.
