It's not capitalism, it's cronyism. If it was capitalism then the big corporations and banks wouldn't be getting bailed out by the taxpayers. It's socialism for the rich. Privatise profits and socialise losses for the oligarchy.

Have a read up about Antitrust because that is the missing ingredient which has allowed this cronyist oligarchy to take over and corrupt the old capitalist system.

Thanks for responding my friend :-) Unfortunately this is the response I almost always get from people who aren't willing or able to see capitalism for what it actually is. Producing and distributing goods and services; that's what an economy, any economy is concerned with. Markets are present in almost any type of economy; even the Russians under communism had markets, but a large part of the distributing side of their economy is planned as well. All capitalist countries have the same mix of markets and planning in the distributing side of their economies, only there's a lot less of the planning going on. It's in the production of the goods where capitalism creates two distinct classes; one of capitalists, who always become oligarchs and one of workers, who always become the suppressed. It's because the means of production, in capitalism, are owned by a handful of people. And it's always been like this since we had the ability to produce more than we need; the first capitalists were farmers. Couple this handful of owners with an absolute need to make profits, to compete with and eliminate the competition, and you get what we got, what we've always got. This is the divide, and I don't really care if we call it capitalism, slavery or feudalism; in all those arrangements we have the same handful of people who control the masses on account of them owning the means of production. It's really not that difficult: cronyism is capitalism's latest stage. The antitrust you refer to is exactly the proof of it. And when you say "privatize profits and socialize losses", you're exactly right, but that's what capitalism, feudalism and slavery alike have always done. So no, I don't agree that cronyism is some sort of special kind of capitalism, on the contrary: it's capitalism in its purest form.

No system is perfect when it's allowed to run to it's illogical conclusion. Capitalism needs checks and balances to work. So does Socialism, Communism or any other "ism" you want to prefer.

The current state of the world is kind of shitty due to the cronyism, but I've seen a few of these other "isms" run to their illogical conclusion and they are decidedly horrific.
