Importance of molecular biology studies in guava species

in ecoTrain2 years ago

The purpose of searching for varieties that are genotypically and phenotypically different contributes to a population grouping of genes, the germplasm bank is a point of reference in the studies of the molecular biology of the plant.

▶ Molecular biology studies are also aimed at elaborating a genomic map which would serve as an instrument to obtain new and better materials to improve the efficiency of current production systems.

On the other hand, guava has been developed in several countries for fresh consumption, and it has been necessary to develop some selections with good qualities of interesting characteristics of the genus in wild or cultivated plants. Wild genotypes constitute a genetic reservoir of relevance for breeding for productive purposes.

In developed countries where numerous studies on genetic diversity have been carried out, germplasm banks have become very popular. Colombia has been one of the countries in which several characterization studies on germplasm banks have been carried out. In tropical fruit trees, research was recently carried out to characterize and agro-morphologically characterize the native genetic variability of soursop and Annonaceae species.

On the other hand, morphological characterization studies have not only been carried out with guava trees, but also with other crops of greater or equal commercial value such as banana (Musa paradisiaca), cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.), among others.

Fundamentally in order to study and better evaluate their behavior so that there is genetic diversity, which is essential for sustainable agricultural production, all this is in order to establish species and evaluate them in other agro-ecological environments in order to know varieties that can adapt to different climatic conditions.
