What a journey this is! Things are unfolding day by day, and as each day passes things get a little easier, and much more interesting... If you haven't been following the ecoVillage story, I am currently in Portugal after being locked out of my earthship home in India. As a result i have been pushed into manifesting ecoVillages way quicker than i had anticipated.. but of course, just at the right time! It's never easy setting up a new life, from scratch, with almost no money, and in a country that in lockdown with no ability to communicate with any locals! Nevertheless, things are looking very promising right now! Not least because yesterday I received a 6,000 Euro donation to start the entire project that will happen on the land we also have just bought last month from a previous donation. Natural giving was always at the cornerstone of the ecoVillages model, and so far it is working so beautifully.
This money is being used to purchase a Yurt which I will live in whilst we start the most important part of our project.. getting water! Our land is beautiful, and has so much potential, and so we will start digging for a well so that we have the basics in place to be able to start a building workshop as soon as possible. I estimate it will take a couple of months to get the water, and once that is done i can look at starting to migrate to that land. Its VERY hard to give any time-lines on this, I am following the flow as it presents itself!
I have also connected with several people who are keen to build community and Earthships here in Portugal! There is already one fully fledged earthship in the area, so we know it can pass the building regulations. It is Very encouraging to quite a few people on local social media looking to do this, and having no idea how to get going on a reasonable budget. A post i saw last week was from someone who was quoted $300,000 to build one here using the official crew from USA. That is too much, and my mission is to get the figure down to about 50K or less.. Lets see~ I have been Very busy working on a new model / design for this area that I believe will be very cheap, easy and quick to build.. and also perform incredibly well even the hot summer days. I am still developing this model, but here is how is looks right now!

So the plan right now is that I am buying a yurt as a base to get this project off the ground. I will set it up on the land i am currently staying in , which is a very good place in many ways. It seems that a wave is happening here on this 9 acres of land, also with SO much potential. Soon we will be 5 people here, all with similar ambitions and desires, to build together with and for each other to get off grid and self sufficiently with real life long security and.. almost no bills!
