Harvests, Lots of Bean Harvests - Saturday

in ecoTrain2 years ago

Yesterday was spent in the garden. It was time to get the beans all picked and all the rows were in need.

First was to get through the squash rows which ended up giving me 16.5 pounds.

I found another squash that I am going to be letting get good and big to save for seed. This one is one of the Chiffon squash that is a cream color.

@stryeyz and the boys went for a walk around the upper pen and my dumb ass forgot to have my protein shake after taking my morning meds and while on the walk with them I got suddenly nauseous and had to run down to the house to slug it down before heading back up the hill to finish my mile walk for the day.

The day then was spent sitting on my garden cart rolling down the rows picking beans to either side of me.

The first 2 rows next to the squash gave me 13 pounds and I am trying this to help keep track of the weights.

The next 6 rows ended up giving me 12.5 pounds which was a mix of different colors.

It was afternoon and I was still scooting along the bean rows. I moved myself back to the productive rows which I had piked not too long ago but still gave me 8 pounds. I have to remember next time I grow the Carson beans that I HAVE to stake the plants in the row. They fall over and then the plants break apart FAR too easily. The branches just shed with even the slightest tug on them. I am pretty sure that if I stake the row and have it supported the plants will not fall to pieces so easily.

I then finished off the day of beans in the pole garden where I got a slim 2.5 pounds of Fortex beans.

Another 8 cucumbers and for the day I ended up harvesting over 55 pounds of produce.

In the evening I was standing watching the birds and one of the adult turkeys hens was nosing around the brooder and some of the chicks were following her back and forth across the hut. It's pretty cool to see the little ones interacting with the adults.

I was destroyed from the day and was in no position to be grilling. While @stryeyz worked on dinner I got back to work on the cardboard from the carport. I have a nice big pile of broken down cardboard and I have to find a good spot to stuff it out of the way to use for fires this fall.

We ended the night far later than should have.

Up late this morning and I have to get to cleaning the yard up and continue to work on the carport shuffle.

My first thought, "I wonder if she's old enough to go broody?" about the hen watching the chicks.
