Winter Wonderland - Friday

in ecoTrain2 years ago

Yesterday was a LOT more mellow of a day. We had 3.5 inches of wet heavy snow that fell that ended up giving .52" of water content which is quite a lot. I was up super early and managed to get my posts done quickly which gave a bit more time in the soaking.

The snow is great as it deadens all noise around, it acts as a nice buffer between the highway and us. It made me think it could be really nice to flock the trees with a fire retardant flocking to help deaden the sound year round. Then we could have white capped trees in the middle of summer.

Much of my morning was spent writing. Our local Spokane River Writers group has a discord that we do writing sprints on and it is nice to have others to write with, even if "virtually". I look forward to the day when NaNo sanctions in-person write ins again. While I wrote R played outside in the snow for a number of hours during the morning.

As per normal the deer visited the garden to munch grain. Once the fences are down they are like homing noses and float in on the scent waves.

After picking J up from school I had just parked and we were walking into the house when I saw this fuzzy Wooly Bear caterpillar walking across the snow. It seemed thoroughly confused by the ice cold ground. R picked it up and eventually laid it by a tree out of the snow where it crawled off.

It was turkey trot time at school and they were able to provide turkeys to all the couple hundred students in the school. J came home with a 10 pound turkey in his backpack. It was funny watching all the kids lugging heavy backpacks out of school.

In the evening we had our co-op pickup to go to. Before we left I got the fire going in the pit to later cook with. We left about 5:30 and the truck got there about 6 pm. It was a smaller load this time so it didn't take quite as long as other drops. We got home and I built the fire back up nicely.

R, in his youthful exuberance came running outside shirtless and hung out by the fire for a while as I cooked the steaks.

The rest of the night was spent in the tub soaking.

Today is J's 8th birthday so it will be centered around him. I have to get my writing done this morning then during the day they will go to town to take J to pick out the gift he would like. Cake will be made and we just need to figure out what he wants for dinner tonight.

Happy Birthday to J!

I dunno about white flocked trees in July. I wonder how the trees would do, covered like that? I am glad to see the end of white by the middle of January, but usually have to wait until April...

Yeah they probably wouldn't breathe too well with the flocking all over them.

Happy birthday, J!
